James Dunphy, born Aug 5, 1928, was reunited with his loving wife Betty Madeline Bee on Feb 5, 2022. He was a proud member of the local 18 International Union of Operating Engineers celebrating 75 years of service. In his early years he built homes with his father-in-law Gervais Bee in the Akron area including his home of 54 years in Brimfield, OH. Jay loved to "sit around and tell lies" as he put it. He could mesmerize his audience as he colorfully narrated stories of old in a way that only Jay could do.
In his early years he played football and baseball at St. Vincent High School. In his adult years he played softball. In his middle years he competed in a bowling league. In his golden years he enjoyed golf. But the thing he loved most was his family.
He was always there to lend a hand. Whether it was a home addition, replacing a leaky faucet, fixing our broken cars, regrading a driveway, you could always count on Jay. For eight years, Jay served as an usher at St. Patrick Church in Kent.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents William and Margaret, brothers William, Jerry and Rev. Thomas Dunphy, sisters Margaret, Patricia and Maryann. He is survived by his sister Elaine and brother Terry, children Karen (Larry) Davis of Tallmadge, Teri (Tim) McLean of Mill Creek,Wa, Gary Dunphy of Summerville SC, Dr. Deborah Dunphy,of Mount Vernon, Wa, Diane (Bob) Adkins of Shalersville, and Jeffery (Jami) Dunphy of Suffield, 16 grandchildren and 24 great-grand children.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on June 11th at Restland Cemetery 10:30am followed by a lunch from 11:00am - 2:00pm at Maca Park in Tallmadge Pavillion #3. For questions, contact Karen Davis at 330-701-8801.
