Once again…it’s breeding time! Probably going to be doing some AI’ing on Christmas Day! Unless Santa can make little baby cows happen as a gift!🎅🏻

After fall calving ended (luckily) on Oct 20th, took a drive south on I-77 through the mountains on the 23rd to enjoy the Fall colors, attend in SC the Yon Family Farms female sale on the 24th, spend a few days at Disney, and then see the Fall foliage again on the trip back.

🚨 We will be delivering to CYA Exchange LLC for its Monday, June 30th sale, the 10 bull calves shown herein, all A.I.-sired by bulls at Select and Genex. 👀🎥⬇️. With the expected Summer heat, we are early weaning from our first-calf heifers to give them a break. It is guessed these calves weigh in the 225-325 pound range.

Very bright, sunny Saturday. The main herd was brought in at noon so we could cut 25 and install CIDRs for breeding and then send them back out into rotation for another seven days. It’s very wet, as you can see the sloppiness at the paddock transfer point. (We will keep our eyes on that area and protect it if we need to, but with the 40-45 days rest it will get, it should bounce back fine.)

Beginning of Summer ‘24 this 4-acre grazing paddock was converted into a sacrifice lot, allowing all other grazing paddocks to rest/remain-idle during the drought. In December, the cattle were removed from it and fed under roof for Winter, and it has not been disturbed since. This grazing season ‘25, it will continue to go untouched, and therefore allowed to regenerate for nearly six months with no pressure. After what it looked like and what it went through, so far, with doing nothing to it, it’s doing quite well regenerating on its own from just seed in the hay (shown here). And the 80-acres of grazing ground that it protected is looking absolutely amazing!
