Running their businesses is more than commerce for them, it’s their opportunity to work to improve the industry, better the communities they serve, and inspire the public to explore their cuisine options. Nichole, in particular, loves to escape into cooking and creating new recipes. She sees food as imagination and community as well as nourishment. Cooking and sharing meals has a traditional role in bringing us together with our loved ones and caring for others. We need more of that in this world!

🧀 Happy National Cheese Day! 🧀

If you've spent any time around the market, you've probably noticed that we've become a little obsessed with all things cheese and charcuterie.
What started as a creative addition through Board & Butcher Co quickly grew into a passion for learning about artisan cheeses, pairing flavors, and creating experiences that bring people together around food. There's something special about introducing someone to a new cheese, helping them discover a favorite pairing, or watching a beautifully crafted board become the centerpiece of a gathering.

One of the things we love most about bringing Board & Board and Butcher Co. into Southpaw Meat Market is how it allows us to expand what we offer our guests. Beyond great meats, we're able to introduce unique cheeses, specialty accompaniments, charcuterie experiences, classes, grazing tables, and fun new products that encourage people to try something new.

As we continue to grow, one of our goals for 2026 is to take a deeper dive into the world of cheese. The more we learn, the more we realize how much there is to discover—from cheesemaking traditions and aging techniques to regional varieties and perfect pairings. We're excited to continue expanding our knowledge and bringing even more unique flavors, educational opportunities, and experiences to the market.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be introducing the amazing people who make Southpaw Meat Market what it is! From behind the counter to behind the scenes, we're excited to give you a chance to get to know our team a little better.

First up... Keira!

❓ How long have you been part of the Southpaw team? 💬 I've been at Southpaw for a little over a year now!

❓ What do you do when you're not at the market? 💬 You can usually find me on a softball field or on a tractor in a hayfield!

❓ Tell us something unique about yourself. 💬 I'm a seventh-generation sugarmaker at my family's maple syrup farm, Greene Maple Farm in Sebago. Maple sugaring is definitely in my veins and something I'm very passionate about.

❓ What's your go-to cut from the meat case? 💬 Sirloin steak tips! I love cooking them on the grill or in a cast iron skillet with our Vermont Maple Bourbon seasoning.

❓ What's your favorite drink? 💬 I will NEVER turn down a rush from Aroma Joe's... especially a Blue Raspberry Pomegranate! 😋

❓ What's your favorite holiday? 💬 Thanksgiving! I LOVE food, so it only makes sense. Sometimes it's hard working at the market when you're surrounded by steaks all day! 🥩😂

❓ What's your favorite thing about working at Southpaw? 💬 The people! Between our team and our customers, there's never a dull moment.
