Cedar Barrens Farm We are first time farmers. We are turning 25 acres of forest into our dream farm. This is our journey. We are a growing farm just outside of Murfreesboro, Tn.

Our goal is to lead a simple, self-sufficient way of life. We make things that we love and we know that you'll love them too.

LAST DAY of YouTube week for the farm!

Day 2 after we bought our acreage was spent clearing for what was to become our driveway.

It took imagination and a lot of hard work... especially since we really didn't have the right kind of w**d eater...but we found a way to make it work.

Literally to this day, every time we go up the driveway, we still think of those days clearing, and it's a nice reminder of how far we have come.

In honor of America's Queen - Dolly Parton, may we present to you our cattle herd Queen, Dolly the Majestic Forest Cow.

For those of you who may not know, cattle herds are matriarchies. That's right...the females lead the herd. The bulls just keep the females pregnant and protected. Dolly is literally our Queen here.

With the same spirited humor as Ms. Parton herself would certainly approve of, we'll let the picture of our Dolly inform you as to how she got her name ;-)

This week is still YouTube week for us and we were planning on posting this video anyway, but how appropriate the video is of Dolly. She was our first animal on the farm and the video is her having our first ever birth on the farm.

It's kind of funny to watch now...we honestly didn't know what to expect and at the time very nervous she might charge us in a rage or something.

She's a sweetheart just like her namesake though and has always allowed us to be around her calves. We've been very blessed to be present at nearly all of our calves births but this first one will always be extra special.

For a little while the world might seem a little less kind and a little less generous without Dolly Parton in it but let the video (link in the comments) be a reminder, life is full of renewal and absolutely will carry on.

Rest well Dolly Parton, good and faithful servant. You ran a good race indeed!

THANKS TO YOU - we're almost sold out of pork and won't have more back from the processor until later this week. So instead of asking you to buy something (we don't have much to sell you right now anyway 😄), we're asking for something totally free.

We're kicking off "YouTube WEEK" here at Cedar Barrens Farm.

We started a channel years ago and let it go dormant — but we're bringing it back, and we want to actually build it into something real, maybe even a small extra income stream for the farm down the road.

Here's the deal, no sugarcoating it: the videos up there right now are old, from back when we were first starting out. They're not polished, the titles are rough, there's no fancy thumbnails yet — we're working on cleaning that up.

But we've also got years of raw footage sitting around that we shot along the way and never got around to editing. That's coming too.

🎉 The winner has been chosen! — congratulations again to Gretchen Bilbro, winner of a full year of bacon and sausage from Cedar Barrens Farm!

We ran our first-ever giveaway not knowing what to expect, and almost 400 of you showed up — entering, sharing, tagging friends.

That kind of support means everything to a small farm and we are truly grateful for it. We feel that more and more people are adopting us as their personal farmers, which has been a very humbling surprise.

So, we had some automatic cropping issues we were unaware of while doing the live video. We decided just to re-do it (not live) which gave us a chance to edit some!
