We really love doing anything we can for our neighbors & fellow veterans! :)
BRINGING PRODUCE NORTH
Through a partnership at the Pend Oreille Innovation Center (POIC) located in Usk, Washington, Brandy Badger of International Nutritional Sustainability Partners (INSP), a Washington nonprofit, and Sonya Scauflaire of POIC brought fresh produce to American Legion Post & Auxiliary Unit #144, Metaline Falls, WA last month. Fresh cucumbers, zucchini, and jalapeños were distributed among Veterans at their families.
INSP purchased the fresh food from Veteran-owned farm, Odin's Reward, of Reardan, Washington. This marked the beginning of bringing more food to the food desert of Pend Oreille County by procuring products from farms and supporting communities in Washington State.
POIC is hosting a Work and Pizza Party on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Merkle Standard site; 422767 Highway 20, Usk, WA. RSVP is required for both access to the site and to ensure enough pizza is ordered for the event. This is a great opportunity to help prep garden beds, learn more about the project of growing food through the winter in Usk with the help of heat from Merkle Standard’s digital assets, and enjoy some community fellowship. Plus, there will be pizza! Please send your headcount to [email protected] and bring work gloves on the 17th. Find out more at weareinsp.org.
