Green or tan? Which one gets your vote?

Two-tone green. Two-tone tan. Same pistol, completely different personality.

The CZ P-10 S is the compact member of CZ’s P-10 family, introduced in 2017. CZ, the legendary Czech fi****ms manufacturer, has a long history of engineering practical, thoughtfully designed pistols. The P-10 series brought that experience into the modern polymer-frame, striker-fired era.

The “S” stands for Subcompact. Its smaller format gives it a different feel from the full-size P-10, while keeping the family resemblance in its ergonomics and overall design.

So, which is your pick: GREEN 🌿 or TAN 🏜️?

The Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod. 2 in green is a great example of how a company with centuries of fi****ms history continues to evolve.

Beretta’s story stretches back to 1526, but the 1301 is firmly a product of the modern era. Its gas-operated action, lightweight design, and distinctive styling have made it a recognizable name in the world of contemporary sporting and tactical sh****ns.

The Mod. 2 brings updated ergonomics and controls to an already established platform, while that green finish gives it a look that stands apart from the usual black-on-black crowd.

What I appreciate most is the contrast: a company rooted in centuries of traditional craftsmanship, producing something that looks right at home in the 21st century.

Three Kimbers. Three very different personalities.

There’s something I’ve always liked about Kimber: they’ve never seemed interested in making fi****ms that are simply ordinary.

The R7 Mako represents modern Kimber—compact, lightweight, polymer-framed, striker-fired, and designed around contemporary carry.

Then there’s the 2K11 Eclipse—a completely different animal. A competition-oriented 2011-style pistol where precision, control, fit, and finish take center stage.

And then my K6 revolver in stainless .357 Magnum.

No polymer. No striker. No double-stack magazine.

Just stainless steel, a cylinder, and a modern take on one of the oldest handgun designs.

Three very different guns, but you can see Kimber’s philosophy running through all of them: engineering, attention to detail, and refinement.

Then there’s Hornady Critical Defense.

That little red tip isn’t just there for looks. Hornady’s FTX Flex Tip uses a polymer insert designed to initiate expansion while helping prevent the hollow point from becoming clogged by heavy clothing. It’s a fascinating bit of materials science packed into a tiny projectile.

Bullet geometry. Jacket design. Core construction. Controlled expansion.

That’s the stuff I love.

You can look at three guns and see three guns.

Or you can look closer and see history, engineering, metallurgy, and design philosophy.

That’s when a product photograph becomes a story.

Canik boys are loyal.

And honestly… who can blame them?

There’s something about picking up a Canik TP9 SFx and immediately understanding why people become fans of the brand. This one has the 5.2” barrel, a Vortex Viper red dot, my RBlack wood-handled karambit, and Hornady Critical Defense.

But…

That trigger.

The TP9 SFx came into the market with a reputation for giving shooters a lot of performance straight out of the box, particularly for the money. The longer 5.2” barrel and competition-oriented design give it a very different personality from a compact carry pistol.

And that trigger has become part of the Canik story.

You don’t always need to spend a fortune modifying something before it starts feeling good. Sometimes the engineers get it right from the beginning.

Check out The Vortex Viper sitting on top—a modern optic paired with a pistol platform that was already designed with competition and performance in mind.

My RBlack karambit brings a completely different kind of craftsmanship to the photograph. Wood, steel, curves, texture—something handmade-looking next to all that modern polymer and machining.

And Hornady Critical Defense adds another layer: modern am******on design built around Hornady’s Flex Tip technology.

Different pieces. Different histories.

What does a person carry when nobody is watching?

It’s an interesting question.

Sometimes it’s practical. Sometimes it’s sentimental. Sometimes it’s something you’ve carried for years without really thinking about why.

Today, the photograph started with a Beretta APX A1 Carry 9mm in FDE.

Beretta has been making fi****ms for centuries, but the APX represents a very different chapter in that story. It’s a modern, polymer-frame, striker-fired design built for the realities of contemporary everyday carry.

My RBlack wood-handled karambit—a completely different piece of history. Its curved form traces back to Southeast Asia and traditional agricultural tools before becoming associated with martial arts and modern knife culture.

Then there’s Hornady Critical Defense. The best self defense ammo available and completely legal in NJ.

We surround ourselves with things that are useful, beautiful, meaningful, or simply well made. Sometimes the story isn’t about what something does.

It’s about why it was made—and why it still matters.

That’s the part of photography I love.

You start with a few objects on a table…

…and if you do it right, someone stops scrolling long enough to wonder about the story behind them.

Sitting in the Ford F-150 today is the Springfield Armory SA-16 A2 in 5.56, alongside my 3V Gear pack and Hornady am******on.

The AR-15 family has a complicated and fascinating American history. What began as a lightweight military r***e design in the 1950s eventually became one of the most recognizable fi***rm platforms in the world. The M16 and its later A2 configuration became deeply associated with the Cold War era, a period when the United States and Soviet Union shaped global history without ever fighting each other directly in a full-scale war.

We sometimes look at history through photographs in museums and forget that the people who lived through those moments didn’t know how the story would end.

They worried about their families.
They went to work.
They raised kids.
They served.
They hoped for peace.

Decades later, we can look backward with the benefit of hindsight.

Some mornings in the studio start with a photograph already in your head. This one started with a question:

How do you tell the story of a design as it evolves?

Three members of the SIG family—the SIG Sauer P320 X-Five Legion, the P365-X Comp, and the P938 Legion.

The P320 X-Five Legion represents the competition side of the family: a full-size platform built around the modern striker-fired P320 and SIG’s Legion treatment.

The P365-X Comp. Much smaller, much easier to live with, but still carrying the same modern philosophy of engineering and refinement. The P365 platform helped redefine what people expected from a truly compact 9mm.

And finally, my personal favorite, the P938 Legion—a little pistol with a very different personality. Its single-action design and 1911-inspired controls connect it to an older chapter of handgun history while SIG’s Legion treatment brings it into the modern era.

The RBlack wood-handled karambit, whose distinctive curved shape traces its roots to Southeast Asia and centuries of traditional tool and martial-arts history.

I’m only loading Hornady Critical Defense for my carry rounds—another example of how even something as seemingly simple as am******on has evolved through engineering, materials, and bullet design.

Before sunrise, my Ford F-150 idles in the driveway, headlights cutting through the cool air. Coffee steams in the cup holder, gear is secured in the bed, and the road to the range awaits.

The Radical Fi****ms RF-15 5.56 Other is packed safely in a Savior Equipment r***e bag, with the 3V Gear bag riding along with the rest of the day’s essentials.

There’s something about leaving early for the range that never gets old. The quiet roads. The first light coming over the trees. That little bit of anticipation when you know you’ve got a few hours ahead of you to shoot, photograph, learn, and just enjoy being around good equipment.

And eventually, of course, it’s time to head home.

Gear goes back in the truck. Coffee has long since disappeared. The cameras get packed away, and the RF-15 goes back into its case.

It’s funny how something as simple as a trip to the range becomes a ritual.

The truck. The gear. The road. The range.

Sometimes the story isn’t what’s in the photograph.

It’s where you’re going.

Springfield Armory Kuna 9mm AOW, fits perfectly inside the  NCSTAR VISM tactical backpack in digital camouflage.

The Kuna is Springfield Armory’s entry into the modern 9mm PDW-style category—a compact platform that brings together contemporary manufacturing, modular design, and the familiar 9mm cartridge in a very different package than the traditional service pistol.

Digital camouflage, multiple compartments, and a purpose-built tactical layout give it a completely different aesthetic from the classic leather field bags and military packs of generations past. It’s a good example of how modern gear has evolved alongside the equipment people carry. At an amazing price point.

Originally developed by Israel Military Industries and introduced in 1990, the IWI Jericho was based on the proven CZ-75 design, incorporating its distinctive internal slide rails while adding Israeli engineering and refinements. IWI says the pistol was developed with the demanding conditions of Israeli service in mind, and it eventually became associated with military, police, and security users around the world.

The Jericho has also lived several lives in the United States. Depending on the era, you’ve seen versions marketed as the Jericho 941, Baby Eagle, and even U*I Eagle. Steel and polymer-frame versions have been produced, along with multiple calibers and configurations.

And then Hollywood got involved.

The Jericho has appeared in some seriously memorable movies and television productions, including RoboCop 3, Beverly Hills Cop III, Under Siege 2, Ronin, Rambo, and Live Free or Die Hard. It also made an appearance in Ghost in the Shell, connecting the pistol to one of the most recognizable pieces of cyberpunk pop culture.

That’s probably part of what makes the Jericho so cool to photograph. It has that unmistakable combination of Israeli engineering, CZ-inspired design, substantial steel, and 1990s cinematic attitude.
