The Troy 5.56 “Other” is one of those platforms that immediately feels built for hard use.

Compact, maneuverable, and purpose-driven, Troy Industries built these with a strong focus on durability and modern tactical ergonomics. The “other firearm” configuration became especially popular in NJ because it offered shooters a practical, compact setup while staying within the legal framework here—and Troy became one of the names people trusted in that category.

What stands out to me is the balance. It’s compact without feeling cramped, aggressive without being overdone, and the controls/layout feel familiar the second you shoulder it. It’s the kind of rifle that feels equally at home on the range, in training classes, or sitting in a studio under dramatic lighting.

And visually? Troy rifles photograph beautifully. The machining, rails, textures, and industrial feel all come alive under good light.

Today in the studio we’ve got the mighty Nikon Z9 photographing an absolutely beautiful rifle—the Heritage Manufacturing 92 in .357 Magnum with that stunning gold and wood configuration and 18” barrel.

This thing looks like it belongs in a classic western and a luxury collection at the same time. The polished gold finish catches light like crazy, while the wood furniture gives it that timeless lever action warmth that never goes out of style.

And if you want to see how we create these images, we’re also showing the full lighting BTS setup.

For this shot we used:

* two large softboxes directly from the sides for clean, even shaping
* one overhead softbox slightly behind the rifle angled toward camera for depth and highlights
* a Godox SL60 with a grid spot for controlled accent lighting
* plus a small LED panel creating that subtle red kick light in the background

The goal is always to make the steel, wood, and textures feel alive while keeping the image cinematic and dramatic.

The Springfield Armory TRP 1911 in .45 ACP has always had a reputation—tight, refined, and built like a true fighting 1911. This particular TRP with the Coyote/Tactical Light Rail configuration looks absolutely mean in the best possible way. Aggressive checkering, rail-ready, and chambered in the legendary .45 ACP that’s been tied to the 1911 platform for over a century.

Paired here with Hornady Critical Defense, a round designed around dependable expansion and consistent performance, it just completes the package naturally. Practical, proven, and purpose-built.

And tying it all together is the green 3V Gear backpack—“Veni, Vidi, Vici.” I came, I saw, I conquered. Honestly a fitting name because these bags are built tough, organized well, and photograph beautifully. The green against the TRP’s finish gave this whole setup a rugged, almost military-inspired feel.

This was one of those shoots where every texture just worked—the steel, the nylon, the brass, the leather tones. Pure visual storytelling.

The Henry Big Boy Steel X Model in .45 Long C**t feels like tradition got a modern upgrade.

You’ve still got that unmistakable lever action soul—smooth cycling, American walnut, and a caliber that traces its roots all the way back to the frontier days. But the X Model changes the personality completely. Side loading gate, threaded barrel, modern furniture, M-LOK slots, and a darker, more tactical look that somehow still respects the rifle’s heritage.

And in .45 C**t, there’s just something cool about it. A cartridge with serious Old West history still running through a rifle built for today.

That’s what makes the Steel X interesting—it bridges two completely different eras without feeling forced.

The Marlin 1895 Trapper in .45-70 Government already has a serious presence on its own—compact lever action proportions paired with one of the most legendary hard-hitting calibers ever made. Stainless steel, black furniture, and that shorter trapper configuration give it a much more aggressive, almost tactical personality compared to traditional lever guns.

Then the Magpul furniture steps in and completely changes the vibe. Modern ergonomics on a rifle platform that traces its roots back over a century somehow just works. Old-school power meets modern utility.

And next to it, the Black Reaper OTF by Viper Tec adds to that whole cinematic atmosphere. Sharp lines, dark finish, mechanical precision—it fits the mood of the build perfectly without overpowering it.

What I love about setups like this is the contrast. Heritage and modern design living side by side.

The Springfield Emissary 1911 in 9mm is what happens when classic design gets sharpened with a modern edge.

This particular model—the 4.25” black and stainless PX9217L—keeps the soul of the traditional 1911 but adds a much more aggressive personality. The two-tone finish gives it that clean contrast, while the squared trigger guard, tri-top slide, and bold serrations make it feel more contemporary without losing the elegance that made the 1911 iconic in the first place.

Did a full video review on the Oraraer clock gun safe, and honestly… this thing impressed me more than I expected.

At first glance it just looks like a clean modern bedside clock, but it packs in a lot: biometric access, key entry, combination lock, alarm clock functions, temperature display, and quick-access storage all built into one unit.

What stood out immediately was the build quality. It’s heavy, solid, and feels secure—not cheap or flimsy. It’s also large enough to fit a full-size 2011 comfortably, which is a huge plus because a lot of compact safes struggle with larger setups.

I also like that they thought through the security side. It includes both a steel cable option and hardware to bolt it down permanently depending on your setup. And when it comes to access speed, it opens FAST.

Honestly, it’s one of the better blends of function and design I’ve seen in this category. Looks good sitting out in a room while still being practical and discreet.

The LWRC Oscar Foxtrot in 5.56 is one of those builds that immediately feels premium the second you pick it up.

Compact, aggressive, and purpose-driven, the Oscar Foxtrot “other” platform became especially popular here in NJ because it delivers that shorter, maneuverable setup while staying within the “other firearm” configuration. But beyond that—it’s an LWRC. And that name carries weight for a reason.

LWRC built its reputation on overbuilt reliability, ambidextrous controls, cold hammer forged barrels, and some of the cleanest machining in the AR world. The Oscar Foxtrot keeps all of that energy in a tighter package. Fully ambi, balanced perfectly, and just incredibly refined. ()

There’s also something about the way LWRC rifles look on camera. The machining, the lines in the rail system, the fit and finish—it photographs almost like a supercar. Industrial but elegant at the same time.
