Grandpa's House and the Ritter Farm

Grandpa's House and the Ritter Farm Five generations have been crafting works of art on the Ritter Farm since 1945. Grandpa bought the farm in 1945.

Visit the old house, a mini museum and gift shop, filled with the work of local craftsmen, artists, musicians, storytellers in Red Boiling Springs, TN. Determined to not be in debt long, the family sacrificed to pay it off in five years. He raised four kids on next to nothing but love, honesty and hard work. Today we continue running the farm on those principles. Grandpa's house is now a gift shop and mini-museum that helps to keep things running.

Come enjoy the history!

In the 1880s, the town of Red Boiling Springs blossomed into a renowned mineral springs resort, attracting visitors from across the country who came seeking the healing qualities of its red, sulfur-rich waters. Grand hotels flourished, and stagecoaches carried guests from the nearby railroad to this peaceful retreat.

Today, Armour's Hotel & Spa, the Country Colonial Retreat (formerly the Hudson House), and the Thomas House Hotel continue that tradition of hospitality, welcoming visitors with modern comforts while preserving the timeless charm and rich history of Red Boiling Springs. Stroll along the banks of Salt Lick Creek, relax on a porch with a rocking chair, and experience the warm Southern hospitality that has made this community a treasured destination for generations.

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or simply exploring Tennessee's hidden gems, Red Boiling Springs invites you to slow down, unwind, and enjoy its rich heritage.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mel Perdue. Some of our best memories are of her and Wardean sitting under the trees and playing and singing during "How'd Dey Do Dat Day". Mel was always a delight to visit.

On the way back from T-ville, I took a left turn onto the “Compton Place” to go back to the little cemetery in the woods. Generations of Ritters and Brandons and Keiths have been buried there. We use to drive through the breezeway of the barn to get there. Now we drive around the barn and down the lane. The ground was covered with these blue flowers. I don’t remember seeing them before but they certainly dressed the place up.
