🌽 Cutting Silage | Passing the Torch

It’s that time of year again… the corn is ready, and the cows are counting on us. 🐄🌽

Cutting silage isn’t just another harvest. Timing the crop for the right balance of energy, moisture and nutrition so we can put up high-quality feed for the herd to rely on when the fields aren’t growing.

That means long days in the tractor, plenty of dust (and a little mud 😉), and making the most of what we’ve grown right here at home.

But this harvest means a little more when you look around the field and see more than one generation at work.

Years of experience being passed down.
A grandson learning by doing.
A grandfather teaching the next generation to take the wheel.

The equipment changes. The crops change. The years pass.
But the work—and the legacy—keeps going.

Here’s to full silos, healthy cattle, and the next generation carrying it forward. 💚

Some nights, “homemade dinner” sounds way more impressive than it actually is. 😂

Homegrown beef, peppers and onions + a few pantry staples + letting the crockpot do the heavy lifting = dinner on the table without spending all evening in the kitchen.

That’s my kind of farm-to-table. 🌱🥩

Investing in Efficiency. Investing in Our Future. ☀️🌱

Running a farm means constantly looking for ways to improve operations, control costs and work smarter—not just harder.

Our solar project was one of those investments. From planning to completion, it took about a year to bring this project to life, and we’re already seeing the impact. With just over 50 panels, we’re saving approximately $200 a month—about $2,000 a year on our energy costs.

For us, efficiency isn’t about cutting corners. It’s about making thoughtful investments that strengthen our operation for the long haul.

We’re grateful to Midwest Solar Solutions for being wonderful to work with throughout the entire process.

Better operations. Lower costs. A smarter investment in the future of our farm. ☀️🐄🌾

Pickle Mode 🥒

If you follow us well then you know we’re rural raised over here… another adventure for this season, I’m turning cucumbers into pickles!! This is new for me!! I’m trying it with a seasoning packet and an electric gadget because ain’t nobody got time to make this harder than it needs to be. 😂 Yes, you can still do the water bath and/or refrigerate depending on how long you want them to last or how many jars you have.

My crockpot is seriously one of my kitchen lifesavers! 🙌 I’ll throw the meat in with some seasonings in the morning, let it do its thing while I tackle the day, and then come dinner time, I just toss everything together.

Especially during busy seasons like back-to-school and harvest, I’ll take ANY shortcut that gets a home-cooked meal on the table! ❤️

This spaghetti is one of those easy, hearty meals that does just that. 🍝 Paired with a salad and toasted garlic bread, it’s a family classic. 😋

Sharing tips because getting the berries of the stem can be such a process! We cool them first and crafted some shaker panels to also help shake them off.

🌽🌱Welcome to Harvest Hallway🌱🌽

When the corn gets tall on one side, the beans fill in on the other, and the rain shows up at just the right times… you get a pretty beautiful view driving down a dirt road.

We don’t get a harvest hallway like this every year, so when the crops are looking this full and this tall, you can’t help but slow down, take notice, and say thank you, Lord. 🙏

Good timing. Good rain. Good growing weather. And a whole lot of potential waiting out there in those fields.

Sometimes the best views don’t require a scenic overlook — just a gravel road and a little appreciation for what’s growing around you. 🚜🌱🌽🫘
