I’m never too old to make my mom a gift for Mothers Day. My mom is very sentimental like me so I knew she would love this. Cookie memories ❤️ Below are some of my favorite childhood memories with my mom:
Jones Beach- My mom would bring us there from sun up to sun down. We got there very early every single time so we would be guaranteed a spot at field 6, the field with the shortest walk and the smallest parking lot. Sandwiches in coolers, a huge umbrella, the best! We’d come home tired from the sun and sit in ac while she made us dinner.
Sunrise Mall- My mom loves to shop. She brought us to this mall almost daily. Most of the time just to window shop and walk around. We always parked at the lower level of Macys by the pantyhose’s section! 😂 It’s my mom’s fault I can never stop shopping or spending money.
Sauce Sundays- My mom makes the best sauce and meatballs. Every Sunday we had sauce. Literally- every Sunday til the day I moved out. During my teen years my gfs would come over on Sundays just for sauce. I would have liked to keep this tradition alive but I hate cooking🤭 To this day she makes me sauce in huge batches to take home and freeze.
St Rose Fair- My mom took us to this summer fair every single year. We loved it so much. My brother and I would ride our bikes thru the parking lot as they set up the rides counting down the days til it opened. Whenever I see a carnival, I think of my mom! She’d wait in line for over an hour just to get us zeppoles while we enjoyed the rides.
Henry- I got a Boston Terrier after an all nighter in Atlantic City one week before I started my job in the city for the World Trade Center. She wasn’t happy but fell in love with Henry immediately. My mom helped me with Henry so much and it was pretty much both of our dogs. She loved him and he loved her. They were super close and she loved paying ball with him. He was obsessed with tennis balls!
The Young and the Restless- My mom LOVED this show. I don’t know how old I was but I have very clear memories of sick days on the couch with that theme song and the one male character with a thick mustache. Soap operas always make me think of my mom.
Majorie Post Pool- The community pool in the town I grew up in . We got the family season passes every single year and she would take us there every single day. We would get there super early to get a good table with our lunches and we ate in the grassy section everyday. She would often take us home to eat dinner then go right back after dinner just to make us happy because we loved it so much.
Sing Wah- The best sit down Chinese place ever! It was right by our house, and it always felt like a special occasion as a kid when we went there.
Friendly’s- My mom took us here so much when we were super little. There was a Friendlys in the Sunrise Mall back then and my mom would always get us a conehead ice cream sundae. She always had the hot coffee! We loved it.
Christmas- My mom made Christmas special every single year. Between baking, decorating, having us circle all the things we wanted in the huge JCPenney catalog, traditions we had - she put 100% into Christmas- every single year, no matter how little we had. She made sure to make every second of the holiday season fun and magical and it was!
215 Harmony- Our childhood address where all these happy memories were made!
Happy Mother’s Day Mom! Now go enjoy someone cookies with your cookie and tea.
I love you! Betty Sarta Miserendino
