This week, we will have the following varieties of pre-picked apples (some in limited quantities—marked with an asterisk) available in the farm stand. Pick your own apple season begins Friday, September 4!

🍏 Ginger Gold: A medium-large apple with green to yellow skin. Great for salads and desserts as it holds its shape when cooked.
🍎 *Chestnut Crab: This gem of a fruit is mostly sweet with well-balanced acidity and a unique nutty vanilla flavor. Great for fresh eating, sauce, and pickles.
🍎 *Paula Red: For late-August this apple really shines. White flesh, firm, crisp, juicy, and nice subacid flavor.
🍎 *Kerr: A truly special fruit with very condensed and robust flavor—sweet, tart, and heavy on the rose flavor.
🍎🍓 *Chenango Strawberry: A beautiful, aromatic, and deliciously sweet apple. The distinctive conic shape, the pale green/yellow skin that has a pink/red striped blush on it, and the mild sweetness really set this apple apart.

★ We will have limited quantities of pre-picked yellow fleshed and white fleshed globe peaches.

★ There are still plenty of blueberries and flowers for pick-your-own!

08/21/2026

This Saturday morning at 9 am at the farm stand, we will be slicing into a couple of Sidrukollane Taliõun, Chenango Strawberry, and some other interesting apples (one being a red-fleshed apple, and maybe a plum or two) for anyone and everyone that shows up. We’ll call it an “Informal Interesting Apple Tasting.” We’ll be doing more of these tastings on other Saturday mornings this apple season, and slicing some interesting apples to taste together.

📷 Pictured here: Sidrukollane Taliõun, followed by Chenango Strawberry.

There have been many monumental points in my orcharding journey. Another one happened on Sunday. Four or five years ago, I grafted a tree out in the “Conservancy Block” with four varieties (Fameuse, Washington Sweet, Sidrukollane Taliõun, and Tolman Sweet)—just one limb on each side of the tree. It was an experiment of sorts and the varieties were based on some recommendations from friend and colleague Laura Sieger up in Maine. Fast forward a few years and on Sunday we harvested the first fruits off the Sidrukollane Taliõun branches. Talk about a complete MIND BLOW! It ripens earlier than I expected, but wow, is it ever on time. It is an Estonian variety that was developed in 1946 and is extremely rare in the US. I only know of one other orchard that has it. Anyways, the flavor is unlike any other apple I have tasted. Who knew an apple could have warm spice notes and cardamom in the balance? All the while being slightly tart with citrus and tropical flavors. I am OBSESSED and can’t get it off my mind. We will have to graft a few trees of this for the future.

We are very excited to announce Harvest: Three Artists, an art show at Rose Hill Farm featuring work by Adi Blaustein Rejto, Mayuko Fujino, and Tanya Marcuse opening on September 2.

The farm offers a multitude of inspiration, and this exhibition aims to display how these three artists incorporate the farm into their practices. This ranges from the material, the mythology and history of apples themselves, and the ecological cycles of the apples and the life they sustain around them.

★ Please join us for the opening reception on Wednesday, September 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

🍎 There will be artist talks at 6 pm, followed by an orchard walk with the artists at 7:15 pm.

We’ll be sharing more about the artists and the artwork they’ll have in the show over the next few weeks!

We had some excellent days of pick-your-own peaches last week—and those were the last days of pick-your-own peaches at the farm for this season!

🍑 We will have pre-picked yellow-fleshed and freestone globe peaches available at the farm stand this week. Beginning on Friday at 3 pm, we will also have limited quantities of pre-picked Tango II donut peaches available as well, while they last.

★ It’s never too early for apples. Although they do not store well, summer apples can have some incredible flavors and be a great break in between peaches. We will have two varieties of pre-picked apples available at the farm stand this week and weekend:

🍎 Centennial: Dolgo x Wealthy. Introduced in 1957 by the breeding program at the University of Minnesota. Oval shaped and approximately 2 inches tall. Yellow skin with a striped, pink-to-red blush. These apples are the PERFECT summertime snack! Sweet, slightly acidic, crisp, delicious, and so easy to eat.

🍎 Red Gravenstein: A redder and sweeter sport of the famous Gravenstein apple with a wonderful aroma. Great for fresh eating, sauce, and pies.

🌻 Our sunflower and zinnia fields are open for picking!

★ This Thursday, August 13, we’ll have live music by Fred Gillen Jr. at the taproom from 6 to 8 pm. Join us for live music every Thursday night through October! Admission is free.
