In February 2023, the grandsons were visiting with us (the grandparents). We took them to Blue Ribbon Dairy in Kent, Alabama to hang out with the dairy cows and to bottle feed the baby cows. Carson has done this on a past trip but this was Tanner's first time. The boys observed the cows being milked and fed and walked around the dairy to see the cows in the pasture, some waiting to be milked. The calves take in about a gallon of fresh milk at their 3pm feeding plus they have trays of food and water at their doors. Carson and Tanner take turns feeding one calf.
Blue Ribbon Dairy is open to the public. There is a $5.00 charge per person to tour the facilities and bottle feed the baby cows. It's a fun way to spend the afternoon. They are located at 5290 Chana Creek Road in Kent, Alabama. Follow them on Facebook or on their website at https://www.blueribbondairyal.com/ In addition to the cows they have a store where you can buy their fresh milk and ice cream.
Warning: No dogs are allowed on the property, even those you stash away in your car. The dairy maintains several guard dogs on the property who would react to the presence of other canines so please keep your dogs at home.
Visit Blue Ribbon Dairy when you can. Their milk is available at many grocery stores in the area. Check their website for the grocer near you who sells Blue Ribbon Dairy Whole Milk, Chocolate Milk, Buttermilk and occasional specialty Milks.
