Pretty good harvest today. Got some potatoes too (not pictured) all of these will get frozen and either made into spaghetti sauce or salsa! The green peppers also will be sliced and frozen. Makes it super easy just to add some flavor to a meal.

This year has been a learning year. We don’t have much to harvest but we have new systems in place. We’ve tried new things and learned a lot. There’s still hope for some good harvests ahead. Squash. Tomatoes. Basil. Carrots. Dill. Cucumbers. Lettuces. All good things regardless and hoping for an even better year next year.

Some great summer tips here!

Some great summer tips here!

Wow it's been hot 🥵 here lately and we're heading into another hot stretch today!! 🌡The evenings are beautiful and not so bad though💜

Here are a few tips for keeping your Homestead animals safe in the heat.

1. Provide lots of cool fresh water. To drink 💦 and to play in! Sprinklers and shallow pools are a fun way to 🌊

2. Make sure there's lots of opportunities for shade. ⛱ Dust and mud baths are also great! 💨

3. Keep animal enclosures/coops clean for maximum air flow!! 🌬

4. Find opportunities for frozen 🥶 or hydrating treats. For chickens 🐓 or Guinea fowl for example you can freeze some of their food, or give them chopped up frozen fruits like strawberries. 🍓 You can also freeze pieces of fresh fruit into ice blocks for a fun interactive puzzle that also hydrates and nourishes!! Melon, Cucumbers and lettuce are also great for fresh hydration options and .
sometimes treats. 🍉🍈🥒🥬

‼‼An important note: While corn🌽 is a great sometimes treat for fowl 🦚🐓 it should not be given during periods of extreme heat. This is because the corn takes longer to digest and can raise your animals body temperature 🌡making heat exhaustion more likely.

5. If you can't place your bare foot or palm on pavement, it's too hot for your pets! Limit prolonged exposure! 🐾

Please if you found this at all helpful!! Thanks!! And feel free to let us know your favorite ways to beat the summer heat in the comments.
