Montana Mangalitsas

Montana Mangalitsas Montana Mangalitsas raises quality heritage pigs on the wide-open pastures of Montana. We currently have a Boar - Doc Swalliday - and one Gilt - Pig Nose Kate.

We imported our first Swallow-Belly Mangalitsa Pigs (also known as "Wooly Pigs" on April 30, 2014. We will be breeding them when the time is right and have pork available next year! Mangalitsa pigs are known as a "lard-type" pig. These pigs were originally bred for their exquisite fat that was used in cooking, baking, and added to sausages of all types. This type of selective breeding led to the i

ntense marbling of the meat, often compared to Kobe (Wagyu) Beef. The result is succulent, tender meat unlike any pork that you've had before! Mangalitsas are a very hardy breed, and are very capable of handling extreme Montana winters. Besides the thick layers of warming fat, this breed also boasts a thick coat of hair. Hence, their nickname - The Wooly Pig!
