Mud Ridge Ranch

Mud Ridge Ranch We are a first generation farm in southwest Iowa turning row crop to grazing land using regenerative practices.

We raise Highland cattle for breeding, nutrient dense beef, and a variety of products alongside our hair sheep where we manage vegetation.

If these rows aren’t straight I blame the pressure of my supervisors…

We dropped off reinforcements at the levee yesterday. I went through our records 1 by 1 to bring ladies who didn’t lamb. Show up today, literally the day after we drop them up and one of them had a brand new baby lamb.

We love new life! But having a lamb in a public setting, when we are using collars for containment adds some complexity to what we are doing.

Meeting good friends in the beautiful to do some cow shuffling. Sold some cows yesterday and they are all going to great homes! It sure is great seeing where all our cows get to go and the amazing people who will look after them after us.

This is not a sponsored post, but if you drive a diesel vehicle and do not use the Mudflap app, you are missing out on some serious savings. We saved almost 10% on filling up our truck today while hauling cows. That’s real money staying in our wallet!

Obligatory crappy photo from the vet visit. Calves are tattooed, girls are preg checked (no real surprises), and everyone had their collar adjusted if they needed it.

Even though we have already been out for a while, here’s to grazing season officially starting 🙌🍻

Sheep at the Red Oak levee are loving life and doing well! How could you not with this view?

We are keeping an eye on the amount of vegetation present and may have to bring in a couple more sheep to help keep it down but we will see how it continues to grow and if they can stay on top of it
