We have our Winter Hay for the herd in the barn and that feels so wonderful as a couple of days ago we found out the hay grower we usually get hay from didn't grow any hay this year so we had to look for another hay seller and we found a really nice one to deal with.

With not having as many goats as we used to have, we didn't have to purchase as much hay as in the years past, but it still stung the bank account. We had to purchase it all at once this time as we couldn't do a little at a time like we have in the past.

Part Two of my story of becoming a Purebred Registered Nubian Dairy Goat Herd called Humfleet's Nubian Dairy Goats here in Redmond, Oregon.

After I married my husband Noah we talked about changing our Herd Name for our goats and we came to the decision to leave it as Humfleet's as people knew me with that name so there was no reason to change it.

While showing at goat shows almost every weekend, I came across a herd named Remuda-Nubians.com I liked what I saw so I decided to purchase a buck from them to go along with the bloodlines from Sand-Bur-Kids.

We then the following year added a buck from Grande Ronde. That way we had two bucks just in case something happened.

Unfortunately, both the bucks we bought only meshed well with just one our does that we had. This then brought us to the decision of looking for another buck with different bloodlines. With a nice friends encouragement, we added a different bloodline and that led to a bad decision which didn't work out for us at all. Feeling so defeated we looked for another buck and we were referred to the Greenehaven Herd. We then took the leap of faith and bought a buck kid that Dan Greene recommended and the rest is history.

In between trying to find a buck that worked well with our does we became good friends with a lovely lady who is long since passed on and is greatly missed. Rita L. Miller owner of Cherrie Rain Nubians sold us 3 does who 2 of them started us making the ADGA Nubian Top 10 Breed Leaders List. The other doe made the cut and placed at the 2015 ADGA National Show in Redmond, Oregon.

As I sit here looking at posts on my laptop on Facebook and thinking about my health issues. I start to think about what I have accomplished over the years with my herd of Dairy Goats here at Humfleet's Nubian Dairy Goats in Redmond, Oregon.

It all started with a NOA Recorded Grade Alpine Type Doe Kid that I fell in love with when I saw here her come through the Redmond Livestock Auction and I knew I had to have her, so I bought her and named her Fawn. I worked as a horseback rider there and I knew nothing about goats, but I soon learned.

I didn't really care about breeding and upgrading my herd then back in the early 1980's. I was happy with my herd of Recorded Grades. Then it was all about enjoying going to our local county fairs with my Hobby Herd of Misfits.

Then when my daughter became 4-H age in 1986 it was all about her and how she would be able to compete at the 4-H level with what goats we had so I made a couple of purchases towards making our breeding program more competitive. This lasted until Rachel graduated High School in 1995.

Things began to change for me as I made the hard decision with some help from some very good close friends Pete and Debbie Patnode to take our herd to the next level and become more competitive in the Dairy Goat World at Open Shows. I sold off most of my misfit Recorded Grades and purchased several good show quality Nubian Dairy Goats. This decision led to finishing 4 towards their permanent championship and the addiction to winning started all of this to where we are now.

Noah and I here at Humfleet's Nubian Dairy Goats in Redmond, Oregon are extremely proud to announce that Elite 2*M Brighthaven Nott's Dignity has made the 2026 August ADGA Nubian Elite Does List at 97% Percentile and is number 109 on that list out of 227 Nubian Milkers on Milk Test. This is Dignity's ninth time making the Elite Does List. 🙂

Dignity is a coming 10 year old. We are sharing udder pictures of Dignity as a 2 Year Old taken by her previous owner. We have never done any updated udder pictures as Health issues and Life got in the way for us to do that. Dignity came to our farm in September of 2021 as a 4 Year Old Milker if I remember the month right. Dignity is now retired and enjoying her retirement here on the farm. We choose to retire Dignity as we have a wonderful daughter of hers in our herd Humfleet's LD Patience who just appraised GGGG G82 as a first freshening immature 2 Year Old.

This amazing milker has out done herself over and over again and we are so proud to be her owners. Also, this past May Dignity made the 2024 ADGA Top 10 Nubian Breed Leaders List for Butterfat this time making it 3 years in a row on the Nubian Breed Leaders List. Dignity has also earned many International Nubian Breeders Association Awards.

We do want to wish all those who have Elite Does and Sires on the 2026 Elite Lists for their breeds a great big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

This amazing milker has out done herself over and over again and we are so proud to be her owners. Just recently Summer appraised EEEE EX91 bringing me to tears. Also, this past May Summer made the 2024 ADGA Top 10 Nubian Breed Leaders List for Production, Butterfat and Protein. Summer has also earned many International Nubian Breeders Association Awards.
