Even in the arid west many flocks graze irrigated or sub-irrigated pastures that are ideal for gastrointestinal nematodes. Year two of the Western-SARE funded project looking at the efficacy of sheep de-wormers in Wyoming and Montana is underway. If you or someone you know grazes irrigated pastures, and has had a high incidence of internal parasitism, you may want to participate in this year's study. Participation involves allowing us to come take f***l samples from wormy ewes and lambs. We submit samples to collaborating lab which will provide the level of worm resistance to all classes of sheep dewormer. The third fact sheet in the "Best Management Practices to Control Internal Parasites in Small Ruminants" has been published. "Managing Dewormer Resistance" was written by Dr. Dahlia O'Brien from Virginia State University. There will be twelve fact sheets in the BMP series, all written and reviewed by members of the American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasite Control (ACSRPC).
