The Tamale Project

The Tamale Project Hello Portland (Family & Friends)! The Tamale Project's page will help you order your homemade tamales! Spread the word and share please!

The Tamale Project was developed to get my foot in the door to starting a food cart. I got tired of the overpriced-dry-not enough flavor-too gourmet-ish tamales out there & could never find anything that reminded me of home (San Antonio, TX). I decided to make my own! I called my grandma for her recipe & of course, like all grandmas, she gave me the ingredients but no measurements. She said, “I do

n’t know mija, you’ll just feel it”. After many attempts (& I do mean many), I finally came to something that she would be proud of. I create very simple & traditional (to my family) tamales that are all made by hand. I am a full time student with the dream & passion of doing something that I love, cooking. After the corporate jobs I decided it was time for a change (life is too short). This project will be the start to see if my tamales make the cut for a food cart & support my school finances. I am just starting out and would love your feedback

Update: we are moving to Bend, OR in July!

Sorry I have not been on this page in….years! Ever since having my little one my time has been consumed with activities!
During this time, since we are preparing to move and I am busy with toddler activities/classes, I am only doing tamales on rare occasions. You can always text me to see if I am able to make some for you.

In the meantime! Please look me up on Facebook Marketplace (Yvette Yamauchi)!!!!
I am selling a TON of items! We need to downsize and I need to purge my baby items 😭🥹
Every day I will try to post items to sell.
Thank you all for everything!!!!
I will continue with tamales once in Bend where I will be closer to her grandparents which will allow me to cook for everyone! ☺️🫶

Migas is what’s for “brunch”. I wasn’t feeling well (slight vertigo still) and couldn’t decide on what to eat. I realized I had some items to make migas! This definitely brought me back to my childhood days. Simple, easy and of course, from scratch.
