I wanted to share the time and expenses involved in creating homemade products to provide better insight into why natural, handcrafted items may cost more than store-bought alternatives.

I’m using the sunscreen stick as an example.

Tallow:
- Hours/Days to render a batch.
- Rendering is a messy process (feels like you use 857 paper towels).
- cheesecloth for straining

Beeswax:
- $35 for 10 lbs

Jojoba Oil:
- $25 for 32 ounce container

Coconut Oil:
- $80 for 1 gallon

Cocoa Butter:
- $33 for 16 oz

Non Nano Zinc Oxide:
- $56 for 1 gallon

2 oz containers:
- $15 for 12 pack of containers

So, now account your time for making products & labeling everything. I love making natural products. I just really wanted people to understand that it costs money & time… and it’s not all profit. Doing this, I have gained a lot of respect for people crafting homemade products. That’s all 🤍

A couple of months ago we made the decision to stop breeding pigs. Which means, we had our sows processed. Including Tammy 😞

This was a tough but very real part of small farming, especially when animals blur the line between livestock and companions.

I haven’t been able to post about it. But, she was getting old & big… and she struggled to farrow this year, having complications with her litter this past winter. She served a big purpose on our farm and we loved her bitchy, feisty personality. She was good at pi***ng us off & making us laugh. Tammy will forever be remembered as one of our favorite sows…. 🤍

Anyone who is waiting on an order of tallow to be shipped- I’ll be shipping Friday! Sorry for the delay. I will compensate with extra goodies when I ship 🤍

This summer, shipping will be limited along with products for sale. We have a lot of projects & priorities the next 6 months. It’s also very hard to ship in the warm, summer months and hoping nothing melts.
