We are a small family farm ready to serve you thru our beef, pork, hay, and crop production! Thanks for visiting and enjoy following along on our family farm!

My parents, Dan and Jackie Downey, bought the 23 acres we live on in 1993 when I was about six months old. We have been raising a small herd of Scottish Highland Beefers ever since 1995 and have grown our farm since then. Please feel free to ask any questions related to agriculture, as this page is an effort to educate others about this great, integral industry. In the last week our farm welcomed 3 female animal babies and 3 male animal babies. The stage was set and our tie breaker Baby BOY was born Monday at 933 PM!

Nolan James Downey is doing well and his two older brothers are loving their new role!
Best of all my beautiful wife Kaitlin is doing excellent and continues to thrive as a nurturing mother and absolute caregiver to us all.
More farm help has arrived!

We thank our Lord above for these endless blessings.

Farmer Jackson and I took hogs to the experts at Newton Meats Inc. This morning!

We love working with Newton and we savor the delicious meat products they produce from our animals.

There are up to 2 whole hogs available from this batch. Pork will be ready for pick up around the first week of September or so.

Our cattle have been contentedly grazing all summer!
We rotate pastures to allow fresh high quality grass to the cattle as well as a rest period for each pasture.

We are very thankful for the recent rains as the pastures look good again and we should have feed for the rest of fall!

We love the color and variety of our herd.

We have half and whole hogs going to Newton Meats Inc. On Wednesday. Your pork is totally customized to your liking.
Pork will be ready for pick up around 1st week of September.

Our prayers have been answered! We received about an inch of slow rain overnight that soaked in plus a little more today. The crops really needed that!
So did our hay fields and pastures

Now the forecast looks dry and warm so time to bale more marsh grass! We will start cutting tomorrow again.

Please reach out if looking as we can provide a large amount of small, round or large bales for your needs. Low potassium, low NSC, tested hay available

We produce consistent, high quality bales for all applications including TMRs, hand feeding or even bedding.

Our page has been quiet as we have been doing hay!
Tonight's rain is welcomed and we really need more to slowly fall onto our parched fields.

Please reach out if looking for nice hay or bedding in large, small or round bales.
We especially have marsh grass and low NSC tested hay.
We stand behind our hay and work to create repeat customers.

We started hay 2026 this past weekend!
Weather forecasts were questionable but we missed the rain and baled some of the nicest dry 1st crop hay we have ever made.
The views from the field can not be beat.

We are not complaining but really needed the rain yesterday. We got a tenth or so which is better than nothing but really need a slow inch or more.
Please pray for rain!

This is not farm related yet I would like to share as several of you know my Dad. And yet it is farm related as he has shown us all that dedication and mastering your craft go a long way in life, a lesson we continue to learn and grow here at Sundown.

This is my Dad Dan with two of his 6 grandchildren and soon to be 7! Dad helped with swim lessons that day when Kaitlin was not feeling well. Dad has helped me over and over time and again. He is an outstanding Grandpa and Dad.

Similarly he has helped numerous people on the worst day of their lives. Patients who came in to the Cardiac Cath Lab under stress and Dad and his team would spring to action and initiate life saving measures.

Countless people over the years have came up to me and said "Your Dad was in the room when I had my heart attack" "Your Dad is an outstanding nurse and a reassuring calm during the storm" "Your Dad is an expert in the field and a top notch teacher". And yet day in and day out Dad goes to work at his thriving career he loves and does not look for recognition.

So I would like to give him some well deserved recognition and congratulations.

Today is Dad's 40th anniversary working at Holy Family Memorial Hospital. He started in the 80s in the Critical Care Unit and jumped right into the Cath Lab when it opened in the early 2000s. He is the longest running employee in the Cath Lab.
40 years at one place - incredible especially these days!

I am, have always been, and will always be a very proud son for many reasons!
We love you Dad!
