When the weather gets hot, most outdoor animals adapt pretty well. Including horses. In fact, years ago I was on vacation and driving through Arizona ~ 115 degrees raw heat. Passing by endless open desert 🌵 and admiring the horses that would find the slightest spot of shade and just stood there- like legit statues. They would barely even blink because that might take energy. 🤣 but they were used to the conditions and like most, adapted!
Here in New England where the weather fluctuates on a dime- it can be a little more challenging for our horses to adapt since it’s a frequent change of events in terms of weather! Most of my crew sheds out nicely in the spring but it does take time. What makes them feel oh so free and happy is a clip! ( sheets and blankets on hand are a must in case Mother Nature flips a switch!) I don’t normally clip the ones that aren’t ridden and working up a sweat but if they don’t shed out very well then clipping makes them more cozy.
Hopefully she won’t hate me for this but this is Carolyn, she’s the one that makes our crew cozy and beautiful. She is also part horse whisperer and maybe doesn’t know it. The first time she clipped Rain I said don’t bother with her ears, she won’t let you touch them. Carolyn said “ok” well, she had Rain’s ears done the next time and said “oh we figured it out. They’re done. She just needed a little talking to” 🤦🏼♀️🤣
Here we have Molly, on crossties. Have you met Molly? She’s not one to stand for anything “care” related never mind stand on crossties. I was questioning if Carolyn had a death wish today or….nope she just knows what to do.
I think Molly needed a little talking to as well, and maybe a few elbows to the chest but Carolyn can pretty much handle anything that comes her way and she sure loves the little feral ones. 😈
