Tonight’s deck garden haul is NOT playing around! 🌶️🔥🥵

Tonight’s harvest:
• 15 "Not-Your-Grocery-Store" Fiery Jalapeños
• 3 Ghost Peppers
• 1 Carolina Reaper (check out that wicked stinger! 👀)
• 2 Mystery Orange Habaneros (?)
• 1 Mystery Red Habanero (?)
• 1 Anaheim

And let me tell you—these deck jalapeños are NO mild joke. Whatever Georgia heat and sun they’ve been soaking up has turned them into absolute firecrackers that kick harder than any jalapeño I’ve ever tasted!

Blend those with three Ghosts and a Reaper, and whatever hot sauce comes out of this batch is going to need a warning label. 🚫🚒

Drop your favorite hot sauce blend below! 👇

Well, the mystery deepens on the pepper deck… these were supposed to be Apocalypse Scorpions, but they definitely did NOT get the memo! 🧐🌶️

Instead of gnarly, blistered red pods with wicked stingers, we’re getting these smooth, gorgeous yellow-peach pods with folded shoulders and a distinctly bonnet-like shape! 💛

I'm thinking we got a surprise Scotch Bonnet or Yellow Habanero mix-up from the nursery, but you never know with pepper genetics…

The mystery is solved, and if you voted STAY BUG, you are 100% correct! 🌿🏆

This little flyer is the famous **Black Soldier Fly** (*Hermetia illucens*)! 🪰✨

Despite looking like an aggressive black wasp or mud dauber, they are harmless, beneficial powerhouses:

🚫 Zero Bite, Zero Sting: Adults don’t possess a stinger or functional chewing mouthparts. They don't bite humans, animals, or plants, and they don't transmit diseases.
🧦 The "White Socks": Take a close look at its feet—those pale whitish tarsal tips and the clear translucent spots on the abdomen are classic soldier fly traits!
♻️ Composting Legends: Their grubs (BSFL) are celebrated worldwide by homesteaders, gardeners, and chicken keepers. They digest compost and food waste in record time, outcompeting annoying houseflies and providing an ultra-rich natural fertilizer (frass) and high-protein treat!

It’s that time again—welcome back to ! 🚨🤠🌾

Spotted this sleek, shadowy visitor hanging out on the siding today! 👀

Before tomorrow’s reveal, let’s hear your verdict: Is this a STAY BUG or a GO BUG? 🛑

Here are your clues:
1. It sports an all-black silhouette, long smoky wings, and distinctive pale white tips on its feet. 🧦🖤
2. With its long, segmented antennae and slender waist, but it doesn't build mud nests or hives. 🎭
3. Its adult lifespan is incredibly brief—only lasting about 5 to 8 days total! ⏳

The moment we’ve been waiting all season for—the FIRST super hot pepper harvest! 🌶️🔥

After months of tending to these grow bags on the deck, our first Ghost pepper (Bhut Jolokia) reached that perfect fiery red. Just look at that gnarly pod!

Calling all chiliheads: what should we do with pod #1? Hot sauce, dehydrated pepper flakes, or hot honey? Drop your favorite ideas below! 👇

Dodging lovebugs just to get a taste of our very first muscadine grape! 🍇☀️🪲

We never got around to pruning these vines back in February because we were still settling into the property and had no idea what was growing along the fence line. Nature still delivered a sweet, sun-warmed surprise!
Warm from the Georgia sun, incredibly sweet, and so good.

February pruning is officially marked on the winter chore list! ✂️🪵

Anyone else snacking on wild muscadines right now? Drop a 🍇 below! 👇

The mystery is solved, and if you voted GO BUG, you nailed it! 🛑🌾

This colorful pool visitor is an adult **Two-Lined Spittlebug** (*Prosapia bicincta*)!

While the striking black-and-red adult is an impressive jumper (often called a froghopper), they are definitely unwelcome around lawns and pastures:

🫧 The "Spittle" Nymphs: The young nymphs produce that famous frothy, bubbly white spit-like foam at the base of grass stems to protect themselves from predators and drying out.

🌿 Turf Troubles: Both nymphs and adults feed on plant juices—especially centipedegrass, bermudagrass, and hollies—injecting a toxin that turns grass blades yellow, purple, and brown.

🦗 Serious Leapers: Adults have specialized hind legs that make them some of the most explosive jumpers in the insect world relative to their size!

I know, I know—I missed last week while I was away at a work conference, but we are BACK and it is officially time for ! 🚨🤠🌾

I was checking the pool thermometer and found this bold, high-contrast little traveler hitching a ride on our floating turtle! 🐢👀

Before tomorrow's reveal, let’s play: Is this a STAY BUG or a GO BUG? 🛑

Here are your clues:
1. It sports a jet-black oval body accented by two sharp, vivid red-orange horizontal bands across its wings. 🎨🔍
2. When disturbed, it doesn't just crawl—it possesses incredible jumping power that can launch it straight into the air like an acrobat! 🚀💨
3. THE BIG HINT: In its younger stage, it hides inside thick, bubbly foam masses that look just like white frothy spit on plant stems! 🫧🤫

Nature’s built-in pest control is out here doing overtime on the deck! 🌿🛡️🌶️

We spotted an adult Milkweed Assassin Bug keeping watch from the canopy, but look closely at that second shot—there’s a tiny baby nymph on patrol right along with it! 👀

These beneficial ambush predators are pure gold in the garden. They take care of harmful caterpillars, aphids, and beetles naturally, keeping our super hot peppers thriving without spraying a single chemical.

Did you spot the tiny nymph right away? Let us know below! 👇

The votes are in, and everyone who voted STAY BUG was 100% correct! 🐝✨🌾

This hardworking traveler is a **Thread-Waisted Sand Wasp** (Genus *Ammophila*)!

While seeing a large, narrow-waisted wasp hauling a paralyzed caterpillar across the ground looks like a scene straight out of a sci-fi movie, these solitary insects are exceptional allies for gardens and property.

A few facts about this traveler:

🐛 Natural Pest Control: Females hunt down garden caterpillars (like that nasty Hornworm)and armyworms, paralyze them, and haul them down into buried sand burrows to nourish their young.

🛑 Solitary & Non-Aggressive: They do not live in big hives or colonies to defend. They are completely solitary and have zero interest in bothering humans or pets.

⛏️ Master Excavators: They dig individual tunnels in dry, sandy soil and often use tiny pebbles to camouflage the entrance while out foraging.

If you see one trucking across your sandy paths, let it work—it is free, natural caterpillar control! 🧑‍🌾🌱
