Love this sentiment! Totally agree “the health of any city is based on its downtown”…”Downtown Reno is the HEART”. Have you been downtown lately? Also, Mark Estee is now featuring Nevada Sunset Wines at his delicious restaurant, Liberty Food & Wine Exchange! Cheers

Looking forward to today's Artown event at ? Before Alli Harvey adds another layer to her painting, let's get to know the photographer whose stunning image inspired this month's artwork! We asked a few questions to learn more about Jackson Frishman's love of Nevada's wild places.

Tell us a little about yourself! Where are you from, and have you lived in Nevada?

"I'm originally from New Mexico, but I've lived or worked all over the West. Nowadays, I'm living in the Palouse in far eastern Washington."

Do you have a favorite place in Nevada to take photos?

"I could list quite a few, but I'll give a special shout-out to the roadless areas of Esmeralda County, which are truly magical, colorful and photogenic (which is why one my shots from the region was chosen for this Artwalk event, I suppose). It's a scandal how little protection those areas have, as their scenery and scientific resources are absolutely National Park caliber."

Is there a photo you've taken that means the most to you? What's the story behind it?

"I don't pick favorites very well, but I will go ahead and mention an image of an elegant little waterfall in a fold of polished granite that I shot in a very tough-to-reach spot in central Nevada. I love it because it reminds me of the unexpected and unpublicized sanctuaries one can still find as a reward for curiosity, time spent staring at maps and perhaps a touch of miserable bushwhacking.
Why is protecting wild places important to you?"

"I truly need places to explore, to discover surprises, to feel alone, small, even a bit scared sometimes. It reminds me of humanity's history and place in the world, of our relationship with animals and plants, and even of the benefits of civilization, which are not to be taken for granted. I especially love Nevada's abundance of virtually unknown areas, places where the only real way to find out what's there is to go. Even knowing that I'll only ever visit a small fraction of them only makes them more intriguing and comforting."

Enjoy these photos as a sample of Jackson's work!
