If you are familiar with our farming practices, you know that we primarily graze our cows/goats on grass and add little feed supplement.

So the answer is Lard/Pig (light yellow) on left, Tallow/Cow (dark orange) on the right, and here’s Googles explanation as to why:

Why Dairy and Fat Change Color- Beta-Carotene:

Fresh green grass contains high amounts of beta-carotene, a natural orange-yellow pigment and changes the color of animal fat.

Life has gotten very busy the last month, and I have fallen behind on…… well everything !

But I just got done rendering Tallow and Lard, SO LETS PLAY A GAME. The winner will get a $10 credit to the farm store !

1) Tell me either left or right is the Tallow or Lard
2) Guess how many hours from start to finish it takes me (Getting it out of the freezer- putting away the cleaned dishes) to render both the Tallow and Lard.

We recently heard a sermon about how God does all things for good ! The hard things, the unexpected things, the things we really don’t like or want to mess with.

Since then, I’ve had to remind myself EVERY SINGLE DAY. (This is good for me)

Many things have arose the past 2 weeks in which we have not declared “good.” But we are getting through them.

Including, when the Husband is away, the cows will get out again and go play ………brining them home by myself was an unexpected challenge for the day. BUT THEY ARE HOME AND SAFE.

Can anyone smarter than us, let us know why a few cows always want to get out of a 5 + acre pasture. Plenty of grass, space and water 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ Insight would be helpful

We have really enjoyed raising this steer “Rex” from a bottle baby, he is so handsome from a side profile and has the best personality !

He may be leaving our farm and joining another to finish, but we can’t wait to see him next year, may you gain another 1,000 lbs and be spoiled !

We also have a variety of crafts and decor as well as eggs, whole chickens and much, much more !

Wow! What a difference between year 1-2 in 4-H. Matthew was more helpful, confident and interested and it showed in his projects ! This year was a lot more work, but we gained so much knowledge and more determination for next year.

Both Matthew and James had a blast with their friends all week.

Very thankful for the 4-H program and there is something special about being able to say you know where you food comes from !

Matthew placed well in his Dairy Beef classes and rocked his Fox Taxidermy class !

James can’t wait for his 4-h turn next year !
