The iconic Monarch butterfly is now officially an endangered species in North America. ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ˜”

Among the causes of their steep decline, the lack of milkweed (their caterpillar's host plant and exclusive food source) in undeniably the main one and by far. Together, we can reverse this course. Together, we can plant milkweed seeds and give monarchs a much needed breather.

Fall is the best season to plant milkweed. Our cold winters create physical and chemical reactions in milkweed seeds and increase their germination rates the following Spring. ๐ŸŒฑ

It's a small but very useful gesture, plus it makes a great gift for your loved ones!
Monarchs will surely thank you for it by paying you a visit next Spring ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’ช

In case you have ever wondered how common milkweed spreads, here is a visual. These underground rhizomes will continue popping up new plants. There are many types of milkweed (some with tap root, some by rhizomes).

Did you know that Monarch caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves of milkweed? Not only do milkweed plants act as a host for the monarch butterfly but its nectar attracts all types of insects and pollinators such as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Every year the kids and I watch as dozens of Monarch caterpillars munch the leaves, form their stunning chrysalis and eventually emerge fluttering around our gardens.

So please, choose a separate area of your yard and let them flourish. ๐ŸŒฑ

Your garden wildlife is relying on you for safe places to shelter over the winter. You can help them by leaving leaves, branches, sticks, and logs for them to call home. You can pile them out of sight or leave them on the lawn -- it's completely up to you ๐Ÿ’š Beautiful graphic via Healthy Yards
