Bred here. Born here. Raised here. This is what makes the success at The Ohio State Fair a little sweeter!
There are some wins that just mean a little more, and this was certainly one of them for FC Show Goats.
We headed to the Ohio State Fair with a group of does all carrying the FCFG prefix, and coming home with this kind of success from animals born and raised right here on our farm is something we are incredibly proud of.
⭐ FCFG All Eyes on Darby had herself quite a week!🏆 Yearling Division Champion🏆 Overall Grand Champion Breeding Boer Goat in the Junior Show
🏆Yearling Division Champion in the Buckeye Classic Open Show🏆 Overall Reserve Grand Champion in the Buckeye Classic Open Show
⭐ FCFG Yeah Glo was Senior Division Champion in every show she entered!
⭐ FCFG Bye Felicia was Reserve Yearling Doe in the Junior Show, right behind her herdmate Darby.
Anyone who raises livestock knows how much goes into moments like these. You make breeding decisions and hope they work. You spend countless hours in the barn feeding, watching, tweaking and second guessing. Some things work out exactly as you hoped and plenty of others don't. You learn, make adjustments and keep going.
So when you find yourself standing at the backdrop at the Ohio State Fair with animals carrying your own farm name, you take a minute to soak it all in.
We are also pretty proud of the girls behind these does.
Izzy Chaffee put in the time getting these does ready and did an awesome job representing FC Show Goats in the ring. Hannah Chaffee may be moving out of the show ring herself for now, but she certainly hasn't moved away from the operation. She helped start so much of this journey for our family and was there every step of the way this year, helping get animals ready, jumping in wherever she was needed and cheering on her little sister. Watching the two of them work together and support each other was pretty special.
And while we call these our “homegrown” wins, we definitely didn't get here by ourselves.
We are so thankful for Grandma and Grandpa, who are always there supporting this crazy goat adventure. Thank you to Blake Martin for helping with fitting, Brett Martin for jumping in and being an extra show hand when we needed one, Evan Palmer for his help clipping, and Russ SpragueSunset View Livestock for believing in Darby and seeing something special in her. There are so many others who have offered advice, helped along the way or simply cheered on our girls, and we appreciate every one of you.
A big thank you also goes to all of the people who put in countless hours behind the scenes to make the Ohio State Fair and these shows happen. Opportunities like this mean so much to our 4-H and FFA kids. The banners are awesome, but the friendships, lessons, hard work and memories they take home are even better.
We know there is always more work to do, more to learn and more goals to chase, but we're going to enjoy this one for a little while.
