Well... she’s mounted! 🌿😂
Earlier this summer, one of our wonderful customers gifted Lamplight Gardens this beautiful staghorn fern. She’s been happily growing away ever since, and today I finally decided it was time to give her the home she deserves.
Staghorn ferns are epiphytes. In nature, they grow attached to trees rather than planted in the ground, so instead of moving this girl into a bigger pot, I mounted her on wood with sphagnum moss.
Sounds simple enough, right?
It was not simple. 😂
There was peat moss. There was sphagnum moss. There was string. There was frustration. At one point, my bathroom looked like a greenhouse had exploded in it.
But LOOK AT HER NOW. ❤️🌿
She’s officially mounted and back in the bathroom where she has been happily growing since she came to us. Now we get to watch as her shield fronds grow across the moss and she slowly turns that mount into her own.
Sometimes gardening is beautiful.
Sometimes gardening is cleaning potting mix out of your bathroom sink.
Today was both. 😂

Something beautiful is growing under the lamplight. ✨

While this season is winding down, Lamplight Gardens is already looking toward 2027.

We have been researching where garden design is headed, studying the plants, colors, moods and ways people want to use their outdoor spaces. Four beautiful garden styles kept rising to the top:

🖤 THE GOTH GARDEN
Deep foliage, wine-colored blooms, silvery contrast and a little untamed romance. Moody, dramatic and alive, without feeling like Halloween.

🌙 THE MOON GARDEN
White flowers, silver foliage, evening fragrance and blooms that seem to glow after sunset. A peaceful garden created for the hours when most of us are finally home to enjoy it.

🌿 THE FRENCH COURTYARD
Soft color, fragrant herbs, roses, gravel paths and quiet structure. An intimate outdoor room that feels romantic, timeless and just a little transported from North Georgia to Provence.

🥕 THE MODERN POTAGER
Vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers grown together with purpose and beauty. Productive enough for the kitchen and polished enough to become the prettiest part of the yard.

Yes, these styles are gaining in popularity. But we are not following them simply because they are trends.

We are following them because each one is beautiful in its own way. Each one gives gardeners a different way to express themselves. And each one deserves a place under the lamplight.

Over the fall and winter, we will be growing, sourcing and planning with these gardens in mind. Our goal for 2027 is to bring you the plants, combinations and ideas that make these looks possible right here in North Georgia, whether you want one moody planter, a moonlit corner, a romantic courtyard bed or an entire garden that feeds you.

Today was our final Downtown Calhoun Farmers Market of the season!

We want to give a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who works so hard to make this market possible, to all of our fellow vendors, and especially to every person who stopped by our booth, bought a plant, shared a kind word, or simply came out to support local businesses.

You made our very first market season such a wonderful experience, and we are incredibly grateful to have been part of it. We have loved getting to know so many of you, and we truly hope to be back next year!

Feeder traffic got a little wild today! 😂

These two hummingbirds clipped each other in midair while battling over the “free bar.” Don’t worry, both flew away just fine, but we had to include the instant replay!

🌿 MAUI SUNRISE ELEPHANT EARS ARE ON SALE! 🌿

If you love the bold tropical look of elephant ears but do not have room for one of the enormous varieties, Maui Sunrise may be just what you need!

Maui Sunrise grows into a beautiful, manageable plant around 3 to 4 feet tall. Its glossy green leaves are marked with a striking creamy-white stripe through the center, making it gorgeous in flower beds, large containers, and porch pots.

☀️ Sun: Morning sun or partial sun is an excellent choice here in North Georgia. It can also grow in full sun as long as it receives plenty of water.

💧 Water: Elephant ears love moisture! Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during hot weather and when growing the plant in a container. Do not allow it to dry out completely.

🌱 Will it come back every year? Maui Sunrise is rated hardy to Zone 7b, so it can return each spring when planted in the ground here in our area. The foliage will die back after frost, but the plant rests underground through winter. Give it a good layer of mulch for extra protection. Plants kept in pots should be moved into a protected, frost-free location for winter.

Now this is what we call a happy plant problem! 💜🌿

One of our customers brought back this beautiful Mona Lavender that she purchased from Lamplight Gardens in the spring. It has grown so wonderfully that it was running out of room in its original pot!

We moved the whole root ball, fabric grow pot and all, into a much larger container filled with fresh potting soil. Since the roots readily grow through the porous fabric, they’ll soon spread into all that new soil without us having to tear apart and disturb the plant.

We also trimmed it back a little and turned those trimmings into cuttings, so one flourishing Mona Lavender may soon become many!

We absolutely love seeing plants from Lamplight Gardens thriving in their new homes. And if one grows right out of its pot, well, that’s the kind of problem we’re always happy to help solve! 💜
