A HUGE thank you to Wheated Wh***ey for the samples of some bangers of wh***ey! šŸ„ƒ

First up is Russelā€™s Reserve 13 Spring 2026 release at 121.6 proof.

I havenā€™t had a Russelā€™s 13 since batch 1. This is one of the most complex Russel releases to date. The youngest component is just shy of 14 years old, while a large chunk of the recipe aged for 16ā€“18 years.

Aroma: Baking spices, leather, and dark chocolate. This is a sexy nose that I would love to have a candle of. Butterscotch that hardens on a dark chocolate coffee. A touch of black pepper, dark cherry, Dr Pepper style cola, and rich caramel and oak.

Taste: Chocolate chips followed by that turkey funk of a little nuttiness met with sugar. Itā€™s like tasting chocolate chips in liquid form , but not chocolate syrup if that makes sense. Still has that sugar coating on it. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking spices blend in with this affogato like consistency layered by leather and the perfect amount of oak.

I love this pour and really well done Turkey. This is exceptional wh***ey. It just builds and builds as it sits in the glass. Iā€™ll do a side by side with the Cheesy Gold Foil I got as a sample too! šŸ˜©šŸ¤—

Overall score: 8.7/10. Really great mouthfeel, itā€™s memorable, and continues to ride the whole palate. The only thing I can critique on is the finish ends a little bit fast, but itā€™s a damn good pour!

The Reveries with St Louis Juicebox - ā€œShotgun Messengerā€ 10 year Reverie single barrel with Barrel 53 Cooperage.

111 proof - 55.5% ABV

Aroma: Rich caramel, vanilla bean, chocolate cake batter, a little bit of earthy funk like fresh soil. Some red fruits popping out.

Palate: Big but surprisingly controlled. Caramelized sugar, cherry, vanilla bean, toasted oak, cinnamon, and a little dark chocolate come through. The oak gives it structure without completely taking over, while the proof brings enough heat to keep everything interesting.

Finish: Long and warming with lingering oak, cinnamon, caramel, and dark fruit. That 111 proof hangs around nicely without becoming overly aggressive.

A bottle that definitely deserves some time in the glass. The longer you sit with it, the more it gives back.

Aroma:

Think fresh apple juice, freshly opened strawberries, and sitting on a farm porch, getting a whiff of fresh hay on an early summer, crisp morning. Then mix in the changing of the seasons with fall notes of apple c***r, apple pie with freshly coated cinnamon sugar, Grandpaā€™s pipe to***co, and a pile of leaves ready to be burned on the sidewalk in a small town.

This is throwing me back to Memaw Batch mixed with 12 Summers Batch from Barrel King.

Taste:

This just takes you on a ride. Itā€™s super stealthy.

I immediately get fruit wedge candiesā€”the red and orange kind from Fleet Farmā€”then a flood of cherry, to***co, and Milk Duds with a slight char note. Itā€™s subtle.

Mid-palate, I get cherry frosting, cake-batter ice cream, fresh apple c***r, and a touch of funk. Then itā€™s just cream.

I am not kiddingā€”this does not taste like 117-proof bourbon. It tastes more like 105 proof.

There is a stealth bomb of flavor that hits you like an SR-71 at around 15 seconds, letting you know the cherry is thereā€”and itā€™s staying, baby. Until about two minutes in.

It rides, baby!

Viscous as hell in the glass, coating the glass with thick, slow-moving legs, yet unbelievably smooth on the palate. Rich, oily, and full-bodied without being harsh.

It has the flavors of late summerā€”strawberries and applesā€”and early fallā€”pipe to***co, falling leaves, apple c***r, and hayrides.
