Good Monday morning.

We had a very productive Sunday getting the project started for automatic heated waterers!

This is going to save a ton of time this winter not having to break ice and fill water tubs all winter. This will keep everyone happier, cows included!

Water and electric got moved around yesterday and prepped for the concrete pads. That will get the waterers a solid base as well as the cows a dry spot to stand while drinking.

This is a project that’s been in talks for a long time, we’re just finally making the investment. So it’s exciting! Even Loretta was so excited she didn’t want to go inside for lunch. So we had a barnyard picnic while watching Dad run the excavator.

Stay tuned for the next step

Say hi to my lone pullet from all the Silver Ameraucana eggs I hatched this spring.

Here’s the breakdown on how hatches and growing out is going

I received 29 eggs shipped in from 2 different breeders.

14/29 hatched. 48% is a good hatch rate for shipped eggs.

But I lost 4 chicks in the first week 😔 1 with splay leg and the other 3 were just very small and weak.

So 10 chicks to grow out. I freakishly lost one to aspiration/choke. So I got 9 chicks to 10 weeks old.

Now this breed you should be able to tell fairly early on boys vs girls by feather pattern but they’ve all been kinda looking the same to me. I figured since this is a new variety for me I wasn’t noticing the subtle differences at first. Then I started to come to the realization it’s because they’re all freaking cockerels 🥴

Okay, they aren’t ALL cockerels. But I have just 2 pullets out of 9 😞

Now I started this off saying I had 1 sole pullet and that’s because the second pullet is not breeding quality.

So from 29 eggs I have 1 pullet. Which is a little disappointing but that’s how it goes. The good news is I have lots of cockerels to choose from! Normally I’d be more happy to have so many cockerels to select from but being I need to restart my flock I was hoping for more pullets to hatch more chicks from.

Now I’m just hoping I’ve successfully kept them quarantined from the ALV on my yard and they test negative this week 🤞🏼

I don’t think what they’re doing in Washington is going to make a big difference in the beef industry. We need more people to buy direct from their local farmers

Little man loves the bumpy ride and being right in on the action. It also doubles as a wagon supplies and eggs

Happy Mail from Sunny Scrunchie Co. 😍

Now I see why she sells out so fast!! These headbands are so soft and stretching. The way she stitches it together in the middle is absolutely perfect to hide the seam. AND the packaging was like opening a gift, complete with the best stickers!

Highly recommend ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
