Another heifer born yesterday 🎀

I had seen #123 get bred by the bull and put her due date in the calendar for next Thursday. So I’ve been expecting this one around this time.

This puts us at 6 girls and 3 boys for this fall group with 4 mamas left to freshen.

Do you think the boys will catch up or are we going to stay heifer heavy??

Had to stop to enjoy the view.

Large egg from a Silkie mix! That’s pretty eggciting.
I knew these girls were laying good size eggs or were free loaders. I have 2 and they’re both named Chickaletta. I had no intentions of having silkie mixes but when I was trying to hatch shipped Silkie eggs last year I threw in a couple of Anna’s (Silkie) eggs so if only a couple shipped eggs hatched, they could have friends similar in size. Well guess what? Not a single shipped egg hatched but Anna’s eggs did and I ended up with these 2 beautiful girls. I have no idea who Anna’s baby daddy was at the time but I’m guessing it was a Marans.
So yeah we’ve already had a little soft spot in our hearts for these girls, especially after losing Anna, but now that I know for sure at least 1 of them is laying a large egg, they have a permanent spot in the flock too.
I’ll have to get some better updated photos. They’re really friendly but I was interrupting breakfast 😂
