LOVE thisโฃ๏ธ
Just as every individual with ANY disability is unique, the way they and their families choose to approach it is equally unique.
Weโre all on the same team and all have so much to learn from each other! ๐ซฑ๐ผโ๐ซฒ๐ฝ๐ค
Infinity symbols or puzzle pieces
Light it up gold or blue
It doesnโt matter to us
Itโs up to you
Rainbows and sunflowers
We donโt mind the ways you show
Just spread awareness
Everywhere you go
Go red instead
Any color that you choose
We wonโt lose focus here
We have too much to lose
Call it โhas autismโ or โautisticโ
Tell us youโre neurodiverse
We donโt care about which label you use
We are all living in the same universe
Neurotypical and plain ordinary
Autism mom, grandma or dad
We donโt exclude here
We think you are all pretty rad
Low functioning, profound and severe
High functioning and socially unique
We know autism is a spectrum
No easy way to describe it, no perfect technique
Autism is full of breathtaking beautifuls
Autism is full of heartbreaking hards
You are definitely right about both
We arenโt all dealt the same cards
We will never tell you not to be sad
But we will tell you to find the joy
We will educate you and show you
That autism can be found in a girl or a boy
We will show you the light
How our kids shatter the nevers
To hold on to realistic hope
And how to navigate their future endeavors
We will show you love needs no words
That communication can be shown in different ways
If you just listen with your heart
I think youโll be amazed
Take a moment to get inside their world
Tell me, what did you see?
Just a different way of learning and thinking?
I personally thinks itโs extraordinary
You canโt fit our kids inside a box
Nor should you ever try to change them
Masking is horrible for their mental health
They are perfect, you donโt need to save them
Itโs cool here if therapy is your jam
Itโs helped your child learn and grow
Or maybe itโs not your cup of tea
We know itโs not everyoneโs way to go
There is no judgement here
We want to continue to learn
We promise to listen and respect
Let you speak when itโs your turn
We ask that you to listen to us parents
We will continue to listen to autistic children and adults
Both perspectives are important
Please leave out the ugly insults
Letโs work as a team
Letโs get rid of the great divide
Letโs advocate and fight
Thereโs no need to pick a side
We know autism can be wonderful
You wonโt get any arguments here
Our goal is inclusion and acceptance
Not just for the month of April
But for each day of the year
