ris and Rob have a long tradition of drinking beer together, but it was in 2009 when the serious brewing began. Chris has that effortless charm and charisma that makes you believe he could do most anything he sets his mind to, and he’s a man of many self-taught talents.Hang gliding (with trepidation), trumpet playing (with mixed reviews), horse-back riding, but the first batch of Cream Ale, crafted in his kitchen, received critical acclaim from Rob and others. Soon a hobby became an obsession. Over the next seven years the two worked to perfect their palates and process, exploring classic styles and flavors and adhering to tradition. In Richmond, California, “the city of Pride and Purpose,” East Brother brewery is built in a warehouse located in the shipping yards where boats, trains, and trucks come and go from all over the world helping to fuel the Bay Area’s humming economy. The brewery’s like a tiny island
with a view drawing similarity to nearby East Brother Lighthouse (est. 1874), the one-acre rock that marks the entrance to San Pablo Bay just north of Richmond. The city’s industrious spirit coupled with the rich history of East Brother’s safe harbor serve as inspiration for the classic
American character that’s at the heart of East Brother Beer Company. East Brother Beer Company is singularly focused on producing high quality, delicious tasting beer. A custom-designed, 20-barrel brewing system (40 kegs) and precise instrumentation ensure that East Brother’s craft classics are simple, tried and true styles that are welcoming and accessible. With Chris, Rob and head brewer Peter Landman at the helm, East Brother crafts stand-outs including a Red IPA, Red Lager, Oatmeal Stout, Bohemian Pilsner and Pale Wheat Ale. Brewing in the 12,000-square-foot production facility began in Fall 2016 and in early December 2016, East Brother opened its taproom to the public where visitors can sample fresh East Brother beers on draft that include brewery-only, seasonal batches. Casual indoor-outdoor seating offers the perfect perch to linger over lagers, witness the brew works and Northern California’s spectacular sunsets; beer with a view.
