A lot has changed over the past several years. We had a little bit of a transition period, we sold things, bought things…bought more things. We are now only focusing on 2 main areas, hay and cattle. Small farm burnout is a real think no matter how much you love what you do. Going forward we will try and post more often and show case what we are doing currently with the farm and slowly get back into the swing of things.

Sustainable Farming

We are a small family farm in Boston, Indiana. We farm on just over 3.5 acres, raising fruits, produce, pasture chicken, eggs, grass fed beef, and turkey. people are amazed at how much we produce on such small acreage, and always ask how do you grow all that on 3.5 acres?! The answer is Godly farming. Here in the Midwest farming looks like a big green tractor and rows and rows of corn that is not really edible....don’t believe me? try and through one on the grill. This, in our opinion is not Godly farming because of the effects it has on soil health, peoples health, water supply's and top soil erosion, let alone you cant even really eat it! So what does Godly Farming look like? Well at Tegeler Farm we believe Gods design is perfect and he created everything with a purpose. For example in the Serengeti desert the rain comes and hits the earth and because of the highly fertile soil sprouts an abundance of forage. The wildebeest then herd up and graze on this nutrient dense forge, once the herbivore has moved on thousands of birds fly in and eat the fly larva that are hatching in what was left behind (p**p). while the birds are there they spread the manure around and fertilize the plains even more. so that the next time it rains it sprouts up quickly and produces enough forage for the wildebeest to graze once again. this is all part of Gods design so we decided to mimic this on our farm that’s why we use electric fencing to move our cattle daily and then three days after they have moved from the paddock we move our chickens in to spread the manure and eat the fly larva. This is just one example of Godly farming, Composting, no till, cover crop are other examples. There are many names for the type of farming we do, sustainable, organic, all natural... but Godly is the most accurate. We do not use any chemical fertilizer or herbicides/pesticides God put all that in his design so there is no need! For example mulch for herbicides, beneficial insects and crop rotation for pesticides and compost for fertility. As Christians we believe that our life should reflect God...so should our farming practices.
