Funny how everybody loves to talk about high cattle prices…
but nobody wants to talk about what it costs to get one there.
Fuel is high.
So every trip, every bale, every load costs more.
Fertilizer is high.
So now you’re deciding—do I grow grass, or do I cut corners and pay for it later?
And then there’s the one folks dance around…
Who really controls the market?
Because it sure doesn’t feel like the man raising the cattle does.
You can do everything right—
good genetics, solid health program, manage your land, watch your inputs—
and still feel like you’re playing a game where the rules change depending on who’s buying that day.
Then throw in weather that doesn’t care about your plans.
Dry when you need rain. Flooded when you don’t.
And somehow, you’re still expected to make it all pencil out.
But here’s the truth—
Cattlemen aren’t quitting.
We’re adjusting, grinding, and figuring it out like we always have.
That doesn’t mean we’re not feeling the pressure.
