LAFAYETTE TAVERN 🖤🤍

Yesterday I was just minding my own business when I got a push notification that said there was a table for 7 p.m. at Lafayette Tavern. I have never clicked buttons faster to lock down a same-day reservation 😱

I immediately studied the menu and we locked down what we’d ordered before we even went:
🐙 Buffalo Octopus
🐖 Bobo’s Pork Chop
🍝 Bucatini

To drink, Riley did the Federal Punch and I did the Fog Cutter 🍸

When I posted the menu cover last night, a few people asked if it was worth the hype 📣

Frankly, I want to be a hater. I want to have a divisive opinion. I want to whine about hard-to-get reservations. But I simply can’t 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lafayette Tavern is worth the attention it’s getting. The ambiance alone is such a vibe. I felt like I needed a long cigarette in hand and I’d be magically transported back in time. It felt fancy but approachable. The ceiling had red velvet. There were black and white tiles on the ground. The bar had a cool inset curve that matched the cutout behind it. It was just very cool 😎

And the food was incredible. I love buffalo wings and I love octopus. I didn’t ever consider they should go together, but they do. It was fun and delicious and I want Riley to learn how to grill octopus now 🔥

The pork came smothered in mustard and topped with pineapple. I loved the flavor, it was well cooked and seasoned 🍍

The bucatini was flavorful and the slab bacon was so thick it was basically resembled pork belly 🐽

The service was attentive and fast. They all seemed to work as a unit and looked so dapper in their attire 🎀

The only thing I didn’t love was my cocktail, but that was on me because I assumed it would be gin forward and it was rum forward (rum was listed first so again, it’s on me). I also really liked it, just I’m in my Gin Era right now so it wasn’t as swoon-inducing as the rest of the night 💅🏽

Anyways, the item I’d recommend to try that I didn’t get but I trust my eyes —
🥗 Get a salad!! We saw all three and even Riley agreed we missed our for not ordering one. They looked incredible. We’re definitely getting one next time!

SEAFOOD DINNER AT BOIL BAY 🦞

Yes we know we’ve basically turned into a dinner account at the moment, but we’ve been trying so many good spots lately I just can’t help myself!

Tonight we went to Boil Bay in Henrico. We tried a whole smattering of seafood. To start, we did a hot buttery lobster roll (which extra butter because we’re savages) and calamari. I loved the two sauces that came out with the calamari. And you KNOW hot buttery lobster rolls are my favorite. I don’t want to be basic and say that was my favorite, but the roll was perfectly warmed and it was a generous portion of lobster 🤤

Then we got the oysters Rockefeller and our boil bags were quick to follow. We’re wimps so we got the heads off shrimp in the garlic butter 🍤

Our other bags were mussels in the Boil Bay special sauce. If I have to pick, the juicy shrimp in the boil bay sauce was my favorite combo

Then we ordered beignets and churros (yes two fried desserts) BUT ITS A GOOD THING WE DID Because Riley like the beignets better and I like the churros better. The churros had a little cream in the center 🤯

We’re super full and everything was delicious so definitely check out Boil Bay ❤️

BRUNCH AT SUSIE’S 🥪

I’ve wanted to go to Susie’s for so long, and I’ve finally made it! If I was really committed to the bit, I would have ordered off their new (?) brunch menu, but I really wanted their Everything Seasoning Chicken Schnitzel from their lunch menu (but also isn’t the glory of brunch that it also could lean lunchy?!) 🍗

So, I got the Everything Seasoning Chicken Schnitzel and it was incredible 🤤

The sandwich in the background is the broccoli rabe with a white bean spread 🥦

Next time I definitely need the brunch sammy that comes with smoked salmon and a latke on it

MYRTLE BEACH BRUNCH ☀️

We spend President’s Day weekend in Myrtle Beach, and you know that means we brunched.

We enjoyed brunch at Mimosa’s (again). I got the pastrami smoked salmon Benedict (swipe to see it) and the pumpkin cream cold foam coffee ☕️

BIG YUM IN THE BEACH 🏖️

We’re both deviating from the theme of brunch AND Richmond with this post, but wanted to spotlight Roberto Italian Restaurant in Sandston 🍝

Now that we live in Church Hill, Sandston is super close. We randomly ended up at Roberto’s once forever ago. We were wildly charmed by the human waitress, the robot waiter, the owners and the food 🥘

We just went back and WOWZA does it still hold. The garlic knots are a generous heaping pile of garlic knots and the chicken entree was enough for dinner and lunch ✌️

Plus, this spot felt nostalgic of growing up in a way that I can’t explain but I loved it. Definitely worth checking out 🙌

MILLIE’S BRUNCH 🍳

Eek, I have to admit something. For about a decade now, when people asked me where I thought was overrated, I’d say Millie’s. The one time I went ten years ago, the service was borderline rude, the wait was forever, the food was fine, there was no physical menu. I didn’t enjoy my experience. I didn’t understand why Millie’s was an institution 🤷🏼‍♀️

But today, we gave it another shot, and my opinion is very different this time 👏

The service was great, the booth was quaint, the food was unique and tasty. I got the lobster scrambler, which featured lobster, mushrooms and a puff pastry 🥮

I love a spot that is creative with their brunch menu options, and I don’t think I’ve ever had something quite like this! The puff pastry was so unique and I love getting hollandaise on my eggs so this was right up my alley 🦞

My friends got salmon two different ways — smoked and grilled — both looked delicious 😋

Anyways, sometimes you have to admit when you’re wrong and I think my original take on Millie’s was wrong 😳

Restaurants have bad days sometimes, so it’s always a good idea to give them another shot (and maybe don’t wait ten years to try again 😅)

DATE NIGHT AT FOGO DE CHÃO 🎄

We had an indulgent dinner date night last night at Fogo De Chão 🥰

We decided to go big with the Indulgent Churrasco option, which includes the tableside carving of Brazilian cuts including sirloin, chicken, pork, lamb, ribeye AND ALSO one upgrade (a lobster tail, crab cake, truffle butter or bone marrow) AS WELL AS A DESSERT 🍮

The Churrasco Experience also includes access to the market table, which is a wild spread of cheeses, meats, fresh fish, vegetables, fruits, soups, salads and sauces 🥗

My highlights from the market table was the papaya and roasted garlic (which was divine with the meats) 🥩

From the Churrasco Experience, my top two meats were the picanha lamb and the lamb chops (are we sensing a trend 😅)

For dessert, I got the tres leches cake and Riley got the lava cake. The lamb and tres leches cake were my two favorite dishes. The cake was super moist with a creamy frosting, fresh fruit and graham cracker crumble. It’s a dream 🥰

A few bonus points to consider right now is they’ve decorated for the holidays and have all day happy hour drink options 🍸

Thank you to for hosting us for us a filling, fun and delicious dinner 💕

SICILY FOOD TOUR 🍕

We recently went on a cruise and we spent our day in Sicily eating 🍽️

Our first stop was at the fresh fish market, where we enjoyed a beer and a cone of fried fish 🎣

Then we ate a pastry that was basically a rolled up pizza and then arancini before we moved to our two dessert courses 🍚

We grabbed a pistachio cannoli and then real Italian ice (which is NOT what they call it, but I don’t know the real name) 🍨

After eating our five course meal, we visited an ancient Greek-Roman amphitheater that got buried, built on, and then uncovered and semi-restored. Those are most of the pictures you see here. How cool! 😎

Now that I’m back from the cruise and settled back into the real world, hopefully I pick up the pace on posting more 📲

These giant wings were half off during happy hour 🤯

We did HogsHead Cafe for dinner tonight so that Riley could *finally* try their Big Philly 🥩

It was worth the hype 🙌

The peel your own shrimp were also half off 😱

Overall we had a lot of protein heavy food for not that much money! Definitely want to head back for another half off happy hour night 🤩

BRUNCH IN AUGUSTA, GEORGIA 🥞

First time in Augusta ✅

We did brunch at Pineapple Ink Tavern, which features Cuban-inspired food and cocktails 🍹

Mom and I shared the tres leches pancakes and a cubano, because you know we *needed* to do a sweet and savory split 🙌

FEATURING: 3 NEW ITEMS AT UNION MARKET

had this idea in my head for months now and it’s out of date already, but there are NEW MENU ITEMS AT UNION MARKET 🫶

(And by new, I am mean new-ish since it took me a couple months to make the post)

Here are the three new items I’ve tried:
🥗 Miso salad — comes with tofu and a delicious dressing. Well worth the try! It’s refreshing and feels summery

🍅 Tuscan Turkey — my favorite new menu! Roasted tomato spread and pressed sourdough, what else does a good sandwich need?!

🥓 Chicken bacon wrap — big fan of wraps and this one delivered!

Have you tried any of Union Market’s new items yet?
