Howzit everyone! It’s been a while since my last newsletter. Harvest 2025 came and went, I released new wines and we’ve had a bunch of fun events at the winery since my last scribe. I figured it was time to give an update to anyone interested in finding out what’s going on.
The 2025 harvest was short and sweet. It was the smallest tonnage and least eventful harvest I’ve ever worked. That made it the least stressful. Which also made it the easiest and honestly, kind of boring. While there might have been a lack of excitement during harvest, I am excited about the wines it produced. Everything is in good shape; all the wine is through Malo and has been S02’d. The bungs have been swapped out, the winery is cold and the wines are hibernating. In the next month or so I’ll rack and return a few barrels to get them off of the gross lees. Aside from regular topping and feeding them a steady stream of good music, there’s not much to do with them for a while.
The feedback on the last wine release has been great. After all these years I still stress over releasing new wines. Every year I freak out about one wine or another. Usually, the wine I worry about the most is the one people like the most. Last year was no exception. I am proud of all three of the white wines. The new Gruner Veltliner, new Chardonnay and new bubbles are all eyebrow raising wines, in my opinion. The three reds stressed me out. I feel like the reds are all solid wines, enjoyable but not super exciting. Meanwhile, in the tasting room, people are really digging the three reds and are just like, yeah whatever, about the whites (except the bubbles, everyone likes the bubbles). If you haven’t visited in a while come by and taste for yourself and let me know what you think. Oh, and if you’re a wine club member who hasn’t picked up your fall wine release, please come get them.
People, I need your help to sell some wine. Business has slowed down considerably the last couple of months here at the winery. I really need to turn some wine into cash so I’m bringing back the Mystery Box. If you still drink wine on any sort of regular basis and you’d like to support a small winery, please consider purchasing a Windchaser Mystery Box. A case of wine, 12 bottles for $200, that’s $16.66 bottle. The new bonus is you have three options of Mystery Box! A mix of red and white, or a mixed case of all red wine or all white wine; all stuff I would proudly pour in the tasting room this weekend. It’s mostly odds and ends that are a vintage or two past the current release and frankly, are in their prime. It’s a winning investment for everyone. If you are interested, or you know a friend who would want one please email [email protected] to place an order or stop by the winery Fri-Sun to pick one up. There’s a bunch of fun stuff coming up on the calendar, take a look here (https://www.windchaserwine.com/tasting_events.html) .
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I appreciate your support and I hope to see you at the winery soon.
Cheers,
Dave
