Silvershot Vineyards

Silvershot Vineyards Small, Family-Run Vineyard Growing High-Quality Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Our story started in 1999, when I - Jim Fischer Jr. was a senior in High School.

We are a small, family-run vineyard located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA of the Willamette Valley in Oregon. My father, Jim Fischer Sr. and my Uncle Bill collected cuttings from neighboring vineyards and started their own nursery. Our first planting was the following year in our 5-acre Silvershot Block - a mix of Dijon Clone 114 and 115 Pinot Noir. Currently, we have 15-acres under vine, 14 of whic

h are Pinot Noir (114, 115, 777 and Pommard) with an acre of Pinot Gris. All of the plants are dry-farmed and most are own-rooted. The site is south-facing on Holmes Hill at the exit of Holmes Gap/Vanduzer Corridor and gets strong, cooling marine breezes. Wines made from our grapes are distinctively Eola-Amity displaying great spice, structure and clarity of fruit with pronounced minerality from the rocky, shallow soil.

Yesterday was our first Pinot noir pick of the season. Yields were on the lowish side (1.5 tons per acre), but quality was some of the best we've seen in years. Very excited about all of the fantastic wines that these grapes will go into.

What a beautiful day to put a hurting on powdery mildew. Hoping that the coming warm (hot?) temps will help the plants blaze through a very successful flowering. Fingers crossed!

Things are growing very quickly! Happy to have received ample Winter rains (and the sprinkles over the last two days). Rachises (is that the plural of rachis?) are quite long which makes me think that this could be another high yield year (knock on wood...we'll see how things go during bloom).

Recent warm temps have awoken all of our plant friends. Everyone is growing and looking good.

Congrats to our friend Brianne Day! Her 2014 Crowley Station Vineyards Pinot noir received a 94 point score and is tied for first place in Wine & Spirits Magazine's "Year's Best US Pinot Noir - Oregon" section. What a huge, well-deserved accolade for one of the hardest working people we know.

After the last few weeks of warm-ish weather, some of our younger vines are giving us the hint that Spring might be fast approaching. In 2013 we saw bud break a little earlier than average. 2014 was even more precocious and 2015 was the earliest we have ever experienced. 2016 is looking to continue the trend. Yikes! Let's hope that there are no frosts on the horizon (knock on wood)!

Days are getting longer, sun getting warmer, buds beginning to swell.
