💨 Yesterday at the market was a WILD one! 💨

I just want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all of my amazing customers and fellow vendors who helped me yesterday. ❤️

It was a windy day, and even though I had weights on my tent, they simply weren’t enough. At one point, a HUGE gust of wind came through and literally picked up my tent! 😳

Of course, this happened right in the middle of making a sale—with my cash box open and me counting money. 😂

My immediate reaction was to drop everything, jump up, and grab onto my tent because my biggest concern was keeping it from blowing away and potentially hurting someone.

The problem? While I was hanging onto my tent for dear life… my money was flying out of my open cash box and blowing all over the parking lot! 💸💸💸

It was an absolute disaster! 😂

And then something pretty amazing happened. Customers and fellow vendors immediately jumped in to help. People were grabbing money, helping me secure the tent, and doing whatever they could to help me get everything under control.

I truly cannot thank you all enough. ❤️

I’m sure I lost a few $1s and $5s to the wind, but I know I would have lost SO much more without everyone who stopped what they were doing to help me. Your kindness and willingness to jump in meant more to me than you probably realize.

What did I learn from this?
I need MORE weight—and I need weights that securely strap onto the tent legs. My current weights weren’t fastened tightly enough, so when that huge gust came through, the tent leg simply blew right off the weights. In an instant, my tent was completely unweighted!

Lesson learned! ✔️

I’m incredibly grateful to be part of such a wonderful market community. Thank you for looking out for me, helping me chase money across the parking lot, and making a crazy situation a whole lot easier to handle. 😂❤️

I appreciate every single one of you!

A Day in the Life of a Sourdough Baker… 🌶️🍞☕

Late nights. Early mornings. Flour dust permanently incorporated into my wardrobe. Dough under my fingernails. And apparently… peppers for caffeine. 😂

Last night I was up late making dough for a whole lot of spicy sourdough loaves. We’re talking habaneros, serranos, jalapeños, and Hatch chiles. 🌶️🔥

One thing I’ve learned as a baker is that you can’t always judge a pepper by its name. Pepper spice levels can vary A LOT. I’ve had batches of jalapeños that were so mild they cooked up almost sweet, and other batches that could probably clear a room. 😂

So, I like to taste-test my peppers so I know what kind of heat I’m putting into my bread. Which means I regularly take one for the team and eat a raw pepper. You know…for quality control. 😉

Last night, however, there was one tiny problem…

It was 12:30 AM.
I was tired.
I was cutting peppers.
I tasted one.
Actually I tasted four. A jalapeño, then a Hatch chili, followed by a Serrano, and finally for the finale…a hanenero.

And suddenly…

👀 WIDE AWAKE.

Alert. Focused. Ready to take on the world.

Forget coffee. Apparently, a spicy pepper is the baker’s natural energy drink. 😂

So, fellow bakers, if you find yourself struggling to stay awake during those late-night or early morning dough sessions, I may have discovered the solution:

🌶️ Just taste-test a habanero. 🌶️

Results may include extreme alertness, sweating, questioning your life choices, and suddenly remembering everything you forgot to do that day. 😂

The funny thing is, I’ve actually built up quite a tolerance to spicy peppers from all this quality-control testing. I used to be afraid to taste them, but now I actually enjoy it.

Take habaneros, for example. They have this surprisingly delicious sweet, fruity flavor at first. To me, they almost taste like a cross between an orange and a sweet pepper. Then, just when you’re thinking, “Oh, this is actually pretty good…”

🔥 HELLO, HEAT. 🔥

And then it passes….eventually. 🤣

That’s one of the reasons I love putting habaneros in sourdough. They don’t just bring the heat—they bring flavor. And when paired with the right cheese and other peppers, they make one seriously delicious loaf.

So yes…this is what life as a sourdough baker looks like.

Late nights.
Early mornings.
Flour everywhere.
And occasionally eating raw habaneros at midnight because apparently that’s part of the job description. 😂🌶️🍞

(By the way…I did have AI help me write this because…well…I am tired from several late nights and early mornings. I guess I could have tried eating a habanero to wake myself up so I could focus and write. In the mean time I guess I will let AI help me make my post a bit more funny and entertaining to read. I’ll save the habeneros for your loaves of sourdough. 🤣)

Today is market prep day. That means lots of baking. I took a quick break to eat a late breakfast. Sourdough toast, fresh eggs from my chickens made into a scramble with tomatoes, green chilies, and feta. And of course green tea. Now that I have eaten and refueled…I better get back to baking.

☀️ Market Update ☀️

Unfortunately, Sourdough by Emily will not be at the farmers market this weekend due to the extreme heat.

If you're craving fresh sourdough, I'm still happy to bake for you! 🍞

Pre-order your bread for:
🏡 Convenient pickup from my self-serve bread box
🚗 FREE local delivery

I also want to apologize for my absence from the market during these recent weeks of extreme heat.

Some of you may not know that I have experienced a severe heat stroke in the past. It was serious enough that paramedics had to be called, and it was a very scary experience. Since then, I've learned to be extra cautious during periods of extreme heat because I'm more susceptible to overheating again.

Because my daughters work alongside me at the market, I also want to make sure they're safe and not spending long hours in dangerous temperatures.

I truly miss seeing everyone each weekend and can't wait to be back once the weather cools down. Thank you so much for your understanding, your support, and for continuing to support my family's small business. It truly means more than you know.

❤️ Emily
