This past week on the farm was full of crop maintenance tasks, keeping the farm ready for the height of the summer. While we have a short lull in the intensity of weekly plantings, it is the time of tomato tying and trellising the cucumbers. For our tomatoes we use a technique called the "Florida weave" which is a low pruning method for tomato maintenance that uses t-posts for support and sisal twine weaving in and out of the tomatoes to hold them upright as the season progresses. This year our team is trying out a new innovation to keep us from having to bend over as much during this usually back-breaking task. So far, it is working well!

CSA Week 8! Veggie Box members will be bringing home the first zucchini and cucumbers this week along with Super Salad Mix, broccoli micro greens, sunflower shoots, scallions, red curly kale, snap peas and a butterhead lettuce. Salad share members will also be getting Super Salad Mix, broccoli micro greens, sunflower shoots, snap peas, cucumber and butterhead lettuce. Week 7 of our CSA! Members picked up some great veggies yesterday. Veggie Box shares included lettuce mix, Tokyo Bekana micro greens, spicy micro mix, collard greens, super snap peas, fresh baby dill, and hakurei salad turnips. Our Salad Share members got lettuce mix, both micro greens, more snap peas and turnips! If you are a CSA member, we’d love to hear how you are using your veggies this week.

Meet Emma, one of our newest farm team members. I keep bragging about our amazing crew, and Emma is central to this feeling! If you are a CSA member or online order customer, this fine farmer is responsible for making sure all the beautiful farm goodies make it into your bag and to the appropriate pick up location. Emma has jumped right in to the wonder of the pack out barn assembly line, filling in for our CSA manager, Annie, while she is taking a break with her new babe. Emma came to us with a degree in sustainable agriculture and experience on multiple other small farms. When I was checking references last winter, one of her former farm employers stopped me before I asked any questions and just said, “you want this person on your team!” We agree! Emma, thank you for your positive energy, focus, hard work, attention to detail, maturity, and caring presence with the farm and coworkers. We are so glad we get to work with you and be a part of your farm journey!

When doctors tell us to eat the rainbow, I’m not sure if they know about our edible flower secret! It’s the simplest way to get a rainbow into your meal, and the best way to dress up a salad, charcuterie board or dessert. Edible flower packs are in the farm stand!

Our fearless leader is looking so good with the lupine! Farm Manager Erin was exercising her old flower farmer muscles this week as we started to bring in a few cut flowers for the farm stand. Many farms go all in on flower production, and we are clear that we dabble when we have the extra time in our week. Our current farm crew is sooooo incredible that we have had some moments of breathing room. Does this mean you might see a few more flowers in the farm stand this year?!!! We are hoping so! Lupine bouquets are up this week 💐🌷🌺🌻🌸🌹❤️.

Week 6 of our CSA sent Veggie Box members home with lettuce mix, sunflower shoots, mild micro mix, spinach, potatoes, sugar snap peas and green curly kale! Our Salad Share members took home lettuce mix, sunflower shoots, mild micro mix, beets and sugar snap peas. We opened extra spots in our CSA program this season and still have a few spots if you’d like to join us - head over to our website or link in IG bio.
