Enchanted Acres is a professionally run lesson barn and boarding stable, located just minutes outside of Summerville. Inside the barn we have a hot and cold water wash rack, refrigerator, microwave, bathroom and sink. We have a newly rebuilt large outdoor arena and a covered/indoor 50x100 riding arena, as well as an outdoor round pen. Feeding stalls have high velocity fans to keep your horse cool.

For your convenience, we have routinely scheduled farrier service, dentist on a twice-yearly schedule, regular chiropractor rotation and equine massage rotation. We currently do not offer full-time on-site training but will gladly refer you to a reputable trainer. That trainer is also approved to come on-site as available. We have an amazing lesson program and a 4H club! Horse trailer parking is also available.

Any of our friends/family have experience with any of the geocell panels for mud management? We have a few high traffic spots that always get worn down despite addressing drainage and whatnot. There are so many brands with vast differences in pricing. We’d love to get a few for the areas by our pasture gates if we can find an affordable option and some manpower to help my husband install. 😉

Always good to have a plan!! I also like to take water from home when going to horse shows!

We would like to welcome our newest instructor, Lafonta Antoni Harriet aka "Tay" to our barn family!
Dressage instructor and trainer L.A. (Tay) Harriett has more than 20 years of training, teaching, and competition experience. These years have included opportunities to intern, and apprentice with many accomplished and internationally respected riders. Still a student
himself, Tay actively participates in regular lessons and seizes every opportunity to continue his education through various clinics and courses.
Throughout his career, Tay has been privileged to participate in an intensive European dressage-training program with Germany's own Hanschen Eggers. It was with Herr Eggers where Tay was able to train and ride a wide array of horses in all stages of training- from
newly started all the way through Grand Prix.
In addition to his studies with Herr Eggers, Tay has learned from Gunnar Ostergaard of Denmark, Bareiter Marius Schreiner of the Spanish Riding School in, Luis Lucio of the FEI and Spanish Olympic selection committee, world-renowned biomechanics expert Dr. Colleen Kelly from Australia, and Zerke Van der Hiede of Holland.
Having been exposed to so many disciplines and breeds of horses, Tay believes that each individual horse has the ability to teach us exactly what we need to learn through our day-to-day interactions if we are patient and consistent. Any dedicated equestrian who is willing to learn can improve their level of horsemanship and riding abilities. This strong belief is partnered with his passion for sharing knowledge with others to create lessons that are filled with fun and full of accomplishments. Horses and students in ALL disciplines have benefited from Tay's strong background in dressage and biomechanics for both horse and rider.
Tay credits his success to having a positive attitude, an open mind, shamelessly unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and most importantly his support base - the fabulous clients!

Tay holds the following certificates and credentials:
*International Society of Rider Biomechanics, V.P., MISRB, Level III Coach, and Course Mentor, Official Exam Proctor and Practica Administrator
*Equine Shiatsu, Massage and Acu-Point Stimulation Technique
*N.C. State University, Open Horse Show Judge scoring at the Top of his class
*Kinesiology, Biomechanics and Proprioception for The Equestrian Athlete
*American Riding Instructor's Association, Level II Dressage, and Level I Western
*Equine Musculoskeletal Release, MM Therapy

: Being able to assess your equine friend's weight and body condition is a valuable skill, especially during the winter months when horses (particularly older horses) need to generate more heat to stay warm and may hide their weight loss under a fluffy coat.

The Henneke Body Condition Scoring Chart is an important tool that provides a standard scoring system by rating the horse's physical condition on visual appraisal and palpation (feel) of six key conformation points: the amount of flesh or fat covering along the neck; the withers; down the crease of the back; at the tailhead; ribs: and behind the shoulder at the girth.

A body condition score of somewhere between 4 and 6 is ideal for most horses. However, keep in mind that in some disciplines (like racing, polo and eventing) and some life stages (like pregnancy) a higher or lower body score might be more appropriate.

If you think your horse is too fat or too thin (or even if you can't quite decide), be sure to have a chat with your veterinarian to discuss the appropriate condition and feeding program for your equine friend!

And this is one of a thousand reasons NOT to wear flip flops to the barn.. 😊
Are there still openings for June 6th event?
It was a nice night to get outside! Winnie ventured out and did very well but I forgot to get a picture.
Congratulations, Dr. Mitch! Well deserved!
