So, you're thinking about getting your child an iPad? Be better. Buy them a pony.
An iPad teaches colors. A pony teaches consequences.
An iPad keeps them quiet. A pony keeps them humble.

Your child throws an iPad? It bounces.
Your child throws a tantrum near a pony? The child bounces (hopefully).

An iPad will rot their brain.
A pony will break their spirit… and rebuild it with character.

iPad addiction? Real.
Pony addiction? Also real. But at least they'll be too tired/poor to do drugs.

An iPad keeps them inside, safe, warm.
The pony keeps them outside, freezing, muddy, and character-building.

You want to teach discipline, resilience, and upper body strength?
Get the pony.

An iPad gives them screen time.
The pony gives them trauma and legs of steel.

The iPad comes with parental controls.
The pony comes with vet bills, trust issues, and a God complex.

The iPad updates overnight.
The pony updates mid-ride — usually into full gremlin mode.
The iPad comes with a warranty.
The pony comes with regrets, vet bills, and a deeply personal vendetta against your child.

The iPad might keep them quiet on long plane/car journeys.
The pony will mean you are too poor to need to keep them entertained on such journeys.

You want to teach patience?
Try waiting for your child to lead an overly chubby hamster disguised as a pony in from a fresh field of grass.

And friends?
The iPad gives them Fortnite buddies.
The pony gives them lifelong bonds with other feral horse girls who smell like horse p*e and Red Bull formed through traumatic events.

Because in 20 years, no one remembers the iPad game, but they do remember the feral Shetland pony who consistently threw them into the arena fence.

So do it.
Buy the pony.
The iPad might raise a screen zombie...
But the pony?
The pony will raise someone who can deadlift a hay bale, drive a trailer, and be emotionally immune to panic.
Essentially a gladiator — with helmet hair and trust issues.

Coconut Commotion Q (“Coconut”)
Located in Wellington, Florida (until the end of March!)
Reduced carrots if he heads North on your trailer instead of mine!

2019 Buckskin German Riding Pony Gelding
145 cm | FEI Pony Prospect

Coconut Commotion Q, affectionately known as “The Coconut,” is a handsome 2019 buckskin German Riding Pony gelding. With his dressage type, quality movement, and personable temperament, Coconut will be a fun pony to take up the levels.

He is by the German Riding Pony stallion FS Coconut Dream, whose sire FS Coco Jambo was the Westfalen Champion and three-time National Champion Stallion, while his dam, Dark Magic is a German Champion mare and Bundeschampionesse.

Coconut Commotion Q is out of a Makuba Rhinelander mare. Makuba is well-known as a sire who has shared his temperament, brain, and good looks with the offspring of mares of various breeds. Makuba competed up to Intermediaire 1 dressage, before shifting to a successful second career as a driving competitor.

Coconut received 8’s for his walk and canter at his Westfalen inspection. He loves to work and is quite sociable, which makes him enjoyable to ride and promising for continued development through the levels.

He has already begun building a successful show record. Coconut has competed at several schooling shows and made his recognized show debut in October, competing at Training Level Test 2 and Test 3, where his lowest score of the weekend was an impressive 70%. (and that was in 32 degrees with 30+ mph winds!)

Beyond the arena, Coconut has proven to be sensible and versatile. He has been ridden in state parks, open fields, and on the road, confidently crosses water, and is comfortable around wildlife. While based in Iowa, he met deer, turkeys, and pheasants in the fields, and during the winter season in Florida, he is unfazed by squirrels, peacocks, and iguanas.

While he is not typically hot or spooky, Coconut is still a young pony (coming 7) and will benefit from continuing his development within a professional training program experienced in producing young horses up the levels. He would be a wonderful partner for an ambitious Junior or Young Rider aiming toward the FEI pony divisions, or for an adult amateur working in a quality program.

The FAQ’s:

“Why is he for sale?”
My business plan involves breeding, raising, starting, and training ponies to become well-socialized, happy partners for adult amateurs and kids.

“What does he eat?”
1 # Purina Enrich + Vitamin E + electrolytes + 2 cups alfalfa pellets
Free choice grass hay

“What are his living arrangements?”
Outside 24/7, as much as possible, weather dependent. Pastured with other geldings at home. Has a single paddock near friends in Florida. Still young, so he likes to play on occasion.
“Does he have any vices – cribbing, chewing, biting, etc.?”
None of the above. He may paw in the cross-ties on occasion, but that is remedied with a short correction.

“Is he up-to-date on teeth, deworming, vaccinations, Coggins, etc.?”
Yes. All of the above.

“Any lameness or illnesses in the past?”
No.

“How are his feet? Does he wear shoes?”
Good feet and legs are a top priority for my breeding program (my dad is my farrier), so yes, he has good feet. He has shoes on while in Florida, but most of the year he is barefoot or just has front shoes on for going on the trails.

“How much are you asking?”
Four six, zero zero zero – negotiable if he goes back North on your trailer instead of mine!

“Do you have video?”
Yes – Please PM me!
Comments with video links don’t always get approved by admins, so please send me a message if you would like video or if you’re ready to come for a test ride!

“Mulligan”
Registered Name: First Cajun Loper
Registry: Pony of the Americas (POA)
Color: Chestnut roan gelding with blaze
Foaled: May 3, 2021
Height: 13.3 hh / 55 in / 140 cm)

If you’re looking for a true all-around pony who gets up every day ready for anything, meet Mulligan!
Mulligan loves to go places and do all the things. He’s the kind of pony that happily goes from kid lessons to adult schooling rides without missing a beat. Safe, polite, and uncomplicated on the ground and under saddle, he’s a confidence builder without being dull.
He “gallops” cross-country and slow jogs ba****ck. (And by “gallop” I mean he is absolutely convinced he’s the next Secretariat and we won’t tell him any different.) One minute he’s getting gritty and competitive playing horseball, the next he’s quietly standing while kids practice around-the-world. (See ‘Good Boy, Mulligan’ video!)
Mulligan loads himself, trailers like a pro, stands perfectly for the farrier, and clips without drama. He enjoys jumping a course, then happily walks out on the trail.
Currently used in kid lessons, but he’s a fun, balanced, and easy ride for adults as well. He has schooled over fences up to 24” and has a solid understanding of shoulder-in, haunches-in, and leg yield. Ready to show Training Level dressage.
Mulligan is the rare pony that can truly do it all. He has a great brain, a great attitude, and just enough pony confidence to keep things fun.

Ladies and Gentlemen… Prepare yourselves… for the most amazing pony you’ll see the rest of this year!

Introducing Bouton D’Or (“Button”) — a 12.3h palomino Welsh/Welsh-cross with the talent, refinement, and presence to stand out in any arena.

Skills:
Ready to show Training Level dressage, schooling First level
Jumps 2’+ confidently in the arena and out in the open
Trail superstar and my favorite for trot/canter conditioning rides
Drives safely on the road, even with traffic
Has been used in a lesson program
Rock-solid at schooling shows — handles the chaos like a pro

Personality:
Button is incredibly sweet, loves grooming, and enjoys being doted on. He loves small adults and children and is straightforward and pleasant to handle. He may need a little trust-building with pre-teens, but he genuinely wants to connect and be someone’s partner. He thrives best in a program where he has a consistent rider or two, rather than new lesson students each session.

The Real Deal:
Smart, versatile, affectionate, brave — Button is the complete package. If you want a pony with the athleticism, talent, and multi-discipline ability to take you wherever you want to go — all wrapped in an irresistibly adorable package — Bouton D’Or is the pony you’ve been waiting for!

Meet ‘Tater Trot’!
Tater Trot is weaned and is now looking for some kids to play with!

Born May, 2025. He leads, has been washed, clipped, trailered and had his feet trimmed.

His mom (12.3 hh)was bred to a pinto Shetland pony stallion when she came to live with me, and although he is athletic and cute, he isn’t quite what I have described in my business plan.

Let me know if you have interest in taking Tater Trot home with you!

See You Later, Mac-a-roanie!

Today we’re saying goodbye to one of the true legends of our barn family. After six wonderful years on loan, Mac-a-roanie is heading home to rejoin his family, who need him back.

Mac-a-roanie has been so much more than just a lesson pony here. He’s been the unicorn who could safely carry a G1 rider on their very first trot and then turn around and help a G7 rider polish their dressage test. He’s cheered on the Luther College equestrian club, convinced a whole crew of G3s that he’s the *tallest pony ever* (at 13.3 ;) ), and reminded us all to always clap for his fancy trots.

We’ve loved every minute of his time here: from trail rides to teaching kids to being a firm favorite of our college riders. He will be deeply missed, but we’re grateful for the years of memories and for everything he’s given our students.

Thank you to the Quandahl and Fraunhofer families for sharing their special pony with us! And thank you, Mac, for everything you have done for our students (and for all the laughs, fancy trots, and cookie-demanding moments)!
We can’t wait to hear about your next adventures and you’ll always have a place here in our . 💙

Carl Hester tells us “First thing I look at when I buy a horse is paces, rather than breeding. Beautiful parents don’t always produce beautiful children. I’m not looking for the flashiest paces, but also the trainablility and rideability. How are you going to keep a big, flamboyant mover sound into Grand Prix? You want an easy mover. The horse needs the first thing on the scale of training: rhythm.” – Carl Hester and a young Valegro.

Michael Jung has had many star horses, how does he do it?
“I think a great rider is a rider who can teach the horse and has a good feeling for the horse, and you need a feeling for how good the horse is, and the prospect of the horse. Sometimes you have to be a bit more relaxed the first two, three years and not give them too much pressure because later after three, four years, he’ll be a top horse at the high level. It’s knowing how much pressure a horse can take and when to back off". Julia Rau image
