The dog days of summer… ☀️ After the work’s done, boys will be boys — straight into the mud! 😂

It’s the little traits in life that make this world go ’round. Gotta love a toddler covered in mud, especially after all his hard work helping irrigate this summer. 💦🌱

A little dirt, a lot of fun, and memories we’ll treasure forever. ❤️

When you're a toddler at Smeds Farmhouse, you learn the value of hard work early. 🌾

Lander got his first chance to help bale hay with his uncle, and he couldn't have been more excited. After watching the fields be irrigated and cared for all season, he was thrilled to see that hard work pay off as we put up hay for the winter.

These are the moments that grow strong work ethics, lasting memories, and a love for farm life. 💚🚜

After a long delay of posting (more than a week, because life gets busy sometimes!), our first organic meat bird processing day is officially in the books!

Did everything go perfectly? Well... maybe there were a few small hitches along the way—but nothing we couldn't overcome. That's all part of learning and growing!

We're thrilled with the final results. Our birds turned out beautifully, averaging over 6 pounds each, and we couldn't be happier with the quality.

📸 Check out the finished product below!

We can't wait to make these available to more of our local community next summer. If you'd like to stock your freezer with locally raised, organic chicken, keep an eye out for our pre-order announcement in February or March. We expect they'll go fast!

Thank you to everyone who has supported Smeds Farmhouse—we're excited for what's ahead! 🐓🌱

As soon as the sun set this evening at Smeds Farmhouse, we moved tomorrow's meat birds a little closer to the house in preparation for the big day. (We do this right before dark to reduce stress)

These birds have lived the lives they were meant to live—raised on fresh pasture and fed 100% organic feed. Tomorrow, we'll honor them with the same respect we've shown throughout their lives, knowing they will provide nourishing food for our family, our neighbors, and our community.

At Smeds Farmhouse, we don't just believe in providing food—we believe in how that food is raised and processed. Our birds are harvested with care and respect using kosher slaughter practices, without electrical stunning or chlorine/bleach chilling. We believe in clean, thoughtfully raised American food and in being transparent about the process from pasture to plate.

Thank you for supporting local farms and knowing where your food comes from. ❤️🌾🐓

As the day winds down at Smeds Farmhouse, we're reminded just how blessed we are. Looking to the east and to the west, we're greeted with two breathtaking views—both stunning paintings from God.

Last night, our livestock guardian dog, Spud, earned his keep once again. At not even a year old, he successfully warded off his second bear. With chicken processing day just two days away, we can't help but think about what could have happened if he hadn't been there to protect the flock.

Life on the farm isn't always easy. There are long days, unexpected challenges, and plenty of moments that don't go as planned. But those moments also remind us to be grateful—for faithful animals, for the opportunity to care for this land, and for the incredible beauty God surrounds us with every day.

Tonight, we're thankful for Spud, thankful for our farm, and thankful for these beautiful reminders to look up and count our blessings! 🌅🙏🐾

What a welcome surprise! 🌧️ We’re grateful at Smeds Farmhouse for nearly 2/10 of an inch of rain last night. Our crops sure needed the moisture!

It seems all it took was washing the truck to convince Mother Nature to send a little rain. 😄

We’re especially thankful the lightning didn’t spark any new fires. We’ll gladly take the moisture and count our blessings. Here's hoping for more gentle, soaking rains in the days ahead! 🌱💙

At Smeds Farmhouse, we're never short on helping hands—or tools! 🛠️❤️

Lander makes sure of that every single day. Dressed in his little overalls and carrying every tool he can get his hands on, he's always ready to lend a hand. We might have to slow him down, but we sure wouldn't have it any other way!

Our smallest farm helper is already proving that hard work starts young. 🚜💚

Remember these guys? 🐥

Smeds Farmhouse brought home 50 meat birds on April 11. By April 25, they had graduated from the brooder to the chicken tractor—that's the first photo.

Now, fast forward three months... the second photo shows those same birds today! Our biggest birds are tipping the scales at over 8 pounds.

We're beyond excited to be producing 100% organic, pasture-raised chicken right here on our farm. This has been such a rewarding experience, and we can't wait to raise even more birds next year to provide our community with high-quality, locally raised meat.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Smeds Farmhouse along the way—we're excited for what's ahead! 🌱🐔❤️

Irrigating at Smeds Farmhouse is especially challenging this time of year.

With the ongoing drought in Southern Colorado, our water has been put on call, meaning we're only receiving part of our normal water allocation. Less water means fewer acres we can irrigate and more time spent trying to cover the entire farm with what we have.

We're praying for rain—not just for our crops and our farm, but for the brave firefighters and first responders who continue battling the Gold Mountain Fire, now at 36,965 acres.

Every drop counts. 🌧️🙏 Thank you to everyone working tirelessly to protect our communities.
