If you're reading this post that means we are officially picked out of apples in under 5 hours today!!!!!! 😳

🍎 We had a record breaking morning out at the orchard and can't say THANK YOU enough to our community who show up to support us!

🍎 We still have plenty of apples in our market! As well as winter squash, pumpkins, ice cream, slushies and a beautiful patio & playground to enjoy this AMAZING fall weather!!

🍎 WE'RE BACK! U-PICK IS OPEN THIS SATURDAY! 🍎

After a little break, the orchard is ready for you again this Saturday, October 3rd! And honestly, this is a pretty perfect weekend to spend the whole day around Riley.

The Riley Fall Festival will be happening in town, so come out for the parade, check out the vendors, grab some food, and enjoy everything Riley has going on. Then make your way out to Creekside and spend some time in the orchard! 🍂

🚜 Wagon rides from Riley to the orchard, and back, will run every hour until 5 PM, beginning after the parade in town. More info on this will be found on the Riley PRIDE page!

And, of course, U-Pick apples are back! This weekend's varieties include:

🍎 Rosalee — a Honeycrisp × Fuji cross with a crisp texture and sweet, floral flavor
🍎 Sweet Zinger — a GoldRush × Sweet 16 cross with a sweet-tart flavor and plenty of crunch
🍎 LudaCrisp — an open-pollinated Honeycrisp seedling with an unknown pollen parent, known for its crazy crisp texture and unique tropical fruit notes

So make a day of it. Start in town, enjoy the festival and the parade, grab lunch from one of the local vendors or restaurants, and then come see us at Creekside for a wagon ride and some apple picking.

Riley is ready for fall, and so are we. 🍎🍂

🍎A little weekend update from Creekside! 🍎

The Market is open! Our U-Pick Orchard will be closed, but we’ll be back for more apple picking next weekend, for Riley Fall Fest on October 3rd! 🍂

That doesn’t mean there’s nothing happening at Creekside this weekend! Come enjoy:

🍎 Our produce market: we have several apple varieties in the market, winter squash, pumpkins, and more!
🍩 Fresh Apple C***r Donuts, because fall isn’t complete without them!
🚂 Barrel Train Rides: weather permitting!

Riley County Childcare Center shared Apple Week with us! Although every week is Apple Week for us here at Creekside, we enjoyed a “nerd moment” with Farmer Miah and the kids from Riley County Childcare Center when they joined us for a field trip last Friday! 🍎🔬

While exploring the orchard, we got to dive into a little apple science and learn about what’s happening inside an apple as it ripens.

Early in an apple’s development, much of its stored carbohydrate is starch. As the fruit matures, enzymes gradually break that starch down into sugars. That process is part of what makes a ripe apple sweeter and changes its texture.

Standard procedure to find the quantity of sugars in an apple, and ultimately determining its level of ripeness is to use iodine!

Iodine reacts with starch and turns a dark blue/black color. Areas where the starch has already been converted to sugar stay much lighter. By cutting an apple open and applying iodine, we can get a visual snapshot of how much starch is still present and how far along the apple is in the ripening process.

🍎 U-Pick Update from Miah! 🍎

Our orchard is expecting to open for u-pick again in another 7–10 days! We’re excited to get you back out in the trees, but we also want to set expectations for the rest of the season.

Our trees are still mostly babies, which means our crop is limited this year. We expect to have limited availability for the remainder of the season, so our u-pick days may be shorter or more limited than usual.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on the apples and sharing updates as things develop. Keep watching our page for the latest information on varieties, availability, and when we’ll be open!

We can’t wait to see you back in the orchard. 🍎🌳

Miah Here!

I wanted to make sure everyone knew: the monarchs are passing through Creekside! 🦋

There are so many of them in our U-Pick flowers right now— fluttering around, gathering nectar before continuing their journey south.

If you haven’t been through to see these butterflies yet, now’s the time, and I’ve done my best to enjoy them while they are here. These small creatures will travel thousands of miles toward a place they’ve never seen, facing wind, weather, heat, exhaustion, and everything else along the way.

I think we can all reflect on seasons of our own lives when we’ve had to be reminded of our strength—to keep moving, even when we weren’t entirely sure where we were headed.

Maybe that’s part of what makes watching the monarchs so special. They’re very delicate, but they’re also remarkably tough.

Sort of like us.

Come enjoy these little creatures with us.
