Today I'll be in the hayfield raking hay because farming and livestock care are all day, every day, and the weather says cut and harvest hay, you do it! It looks like we'll have a good yield this spring. Diesel and fertilizer have gone up so much that our prices will have to reflect that just to break even.
I wanted to give an update on Harry, my little guy with the broken leg. Unfortunately, due to the extent of his injuries, I chose to euthanize. It's a sad day when you feel that's the best choice for such a young one. He had just turned 2 in April. The leg break itself would have been easily handled with pinning and casting. I'll include his rads here and a short note from my vet to better explain what was going on. I could have tried, but with the months of rehab needed and the low percentage that it would have been successful, I made the best choice I could. 😔 I am very blessed to have a vet with a mobile X-ray, so I didn't have to move him.
""Diagnostic Findings:
Radiographs were obtained to further evaluate the extent of injuries. Imaging confirmed a distal oblique tibial fracture of the right rear limb and
additionally revealed a sacroiliac fracture with dorsal displacement of the spinal column/pelvic structures, indicating severe traumatic injury to the
pelvis and lumbosacral region.""
1st photo leg break, fairly easy fix
2nd photo: Sacroiliac fracture, poor prognosis
