It’s officially winter here at Happy Hooves! All my boys have snow and ice all over them and they are happier than a bird with a French Fry 🍟. They won’t even keep their jackets on. 🥶

Alpacas don’t shed their fleece. They have an exceptionally efficient thermal fleece which overheats the animals really easily. So we shear our herd of alpacas once a year, usually in early Spring. It’s essential because their fleece just keeps on growing, eventually causing the animals discomfort and distress. It makes sense. After all, how would you feel if you were forced to wear an extremely thick woolly jacket through a long hot summer?
