New w**e! Picpoul Blanc is one of the lesser known white w**es of the Rhone Valley in southeast France, and we grow it across the street at the Amwell Ridge Vineyard here in Ringoes. We’re pretty sure we’re the only w**ery on the east coast growing this grape. Bright, zippy, bracingly acidic, fresh as a bratty tweenager. Perfect for oysters, so it’s getting the Oyster Fest debut this weekend! Tiger’s Tale is shucking and serving a buffet, live music both days, it’s a great weekend to visit with good food, w**e, and music. Picpoul is the latest entry in our Rhone w**e program, along with its 2024 counterparts Hunterdon Mistral Blanc, and the Marsanne/Roussanne Reserve. Getting there. We're about 2/3 of the way from fruit set to harvest for the Pheasant Hill Vineyard Chardonnay. Even with a wet July, these vines aren't putting too much effort into leaves and lateral shoots. They're switching to ripening, as we would want at this point. That could be because it's been fairly dry for the last 30 months, it could be because the rain has come in torrents and much of it ran off rather than permeated down, it could be the slope of the block to assist in runoff rainfall, it could be because the vines are 30 years old this year. It could be any or all combination of these factors, or it could be something I'm missing. Figuring it out is half the fun. Drinking the result of your attempt at correct diagnosis and reaction is the other half. Maybe more. -John
