We're taking orders on our 2026 beef!

We're pleased to be able to once again offer both grain-finished and grass-finished beef.

Our grain-finished beef are finished on non-GMO grains. These are top-quality beef, with lots of marbled fat in those tender steaks. Our grain-finished beef goes to Troyer's Quality Meats for processing in May and in August. The weights will vary from around 750 - 850 pounds. Our price for grain-finished beef is $4.40 per pound, hanging weight.

Our grass-finished beef are finished on high-quality forages. You'll find them very comparable to the grain-finished beef in fat content, due to quality genetics and high-quality grasses. Our grass-finished beef goes to Troyer's Quality Meats for processing in June and September. The weights will vary from around 650 - 750 pounds. Our price on grass-finished beef is $6.20 per pound, hanging weight.

The weights listed above are estimated weights and may vary. You would pay Overholt Homestead the price listed above, and pay Troyer's Quality Meats for the processing fee. The processing fee for a 750 pound beef is $622. That fee would adjust by $0.75 per pound for smaller or larger beef.

We offer beef in three options: whole, half, or quartered.

You may reserve your beef by calling my phone. We ask for a $300 deposit to hold your beef.

As always, we are delighted to serve our community by providing an alternative food source, one that is more reliable, healthful, and sustainable than the typical mass-produced food available at your local supermarket. Thank-you for allowing us that privilege!

It is time for fall chicken!

As most of you know, we here at the Overholt Homestead usually offer broilers every fall. We believe that the most healthful chicken is one raised closest to nature's design. For us, that has always meant keeping our broilers on pasture, feeding them grain along with non-gmo grains.

This fall, due to our schedules, we will not be able to raise broilers. But, our neighbor and fellow church members, the Jonathan King Family, will be raising broilers, using our equipment. These broiler will also be pastured and fed non-gmo grains.

His price will be $4.99 per pound for whole chicken, and $5.49 per pound (based on whole-bird weight) when they're cut and packaged in their respective parts - legs, breasts, and wings.

His price for fresh (unfrozen and unpackaged) is $4.49 per pound.

He'll have some available in September!

Contact him on his phone at 304-303-8045. He'll be happy to serve you!

We are now taking orders for our fall beef. This is choice beef, grain-finished on high-quality non-GMO grains. That translates into tasty cuts, with a tasty dose of marbled fat. We will be taking the beef to Troyer's Quality Meats for processing on September 22, where it will be dry-aged at least 10 days before processing. Your price is $4.05 per pound, hanging weight.

We expect the hanging weight to be about 750 pounds. This is the estimated weight and may vary a bit. You pay Overholt Homestead the price listed above, and pay Troyer's Quality Meats for the processing. The processing fee for a 750-pound beef is $622. That processing fee would adjust by $0.75 per pound for smaller or larger beef.

We offer the beef in three options: whole, half, or quartered. This will be the last beef of the season! You may reserve your beef by responding to this email, or by calling my phone. We ask for a $200 deposit to hold your beef.

Thank you for allowing us to serve our community by providing an alternative food source, one that is more reliable, healthful, and sustainable than the typical mass-produced fare.

We are now taking orders on our 2025 beef!

Once again, we are offering grass-finished beef as well as grain-finished. With beef prices sky-rocketing everywhere, we're pleased to be able to offer our grain-finished beef at a price comparable to last summer's price.

—Grain Finished—
Our grain-finished beef is finished on non-GMO grains. This is choice beef with lots of marbled fat. You can have the confidence that comes from purchasing meat not fed the typical GMO grains. Those of you who have purchased our grain-finished beef in the past will testify that this is top-quality meat, tasty and tender. Grain-finished beef goes to the slaughterhouse on June 30. It will dry-age for approximately two weeks before processing. Your price is $4.05 per pound, hanging weight.

—Grass-finished—
Our grass-finished beef is finished on high-quality forages. These are not your common grass-fed beef (better defined as non-grain-finished), raised on second-rate grasses . Our beef are finished on a high-quality mixture of clover and alfalfa, along with other quality grasses. The result is a very high-quality beef, with lots of marbled fat. Grass-finished beef goes to the slaughterhouse on June 23. Your price is $5.10 per pound, hanging weight.

— — —

At times we are asked why our grass-finished beef is higher priced than our grain-finished. The difference is the time involved in producing a grass-finished vs. grain-finished. In order to produce a high quality grass-finished beef, we keep them from six to eight months longer than our grain-finished beef. Of course, the trade-off is that you get all the benefits of a healthier meat along with the tenderness and flavor that comes from a quality grass diet.

Both the grain-fed and the grass-finished should have a hanging weight of around 750 pounds. Of course, that is estimated weight, and may vary. You would pay Overholt Homestead the price listed above, and pay Troyer's Quality Meats for the processing fee. The processing fee for a 750 pound beef is $622. That processing fee would adjust by $0.75 per pound for smaller or larger beef.

As always, we feel privileged to serve our community by providing an alternative food source, one that is more reliable, healthful, and sustainable than the typical mass-produced food available at your local supermarket. Thank-you for allowing us that privilege!

Customer-appreciation evening and farm tour! Tuesday, June 10.

We are having customer-appreciation evening for our dairy customers here at the farm. The event starts at 5:30, with a farm tour, with dinner around 7:00. You'll get a chance to view a homestead-style farm, walk the land, and learn about our dairy operation. Your children will get a chance to help gather eggs, feed the pigs, and make butter with an old-fashioned hand-cranked butter churn. And, oh yes, the adults will get a chance to try their hand at hand-milking a cow!

If mama cow cooperates, we're hoping to have a baby calf to pet. The complimentary dinner will include venison hot-dogs and brats, and homemade ice-cream, hand-cranked by on-site volunteers! And for those who care to hang around, the evening will close with old-fashioned gospel singing from the front porch by the Overholt family.

To help us plan ahead, we're asking all attendees to please RSVP to [email protected]. This event will be weather-dependent, and we'll keep all those who've responded updated as we go along.

We're taking orders now for fall broilers!

By nature, chickens are designed to scratch the ground and eat vegetation. With the rise of factory farms, most poultry available at supermarkets today has been raised in crowded conditions, breathing foul air every day of their lives, eating only genetically modified grains (GMO), and receiving routine medications.

At Overholt Homestead, LLC, we offer poultry that we believe is raised much closer to God's design for nature. Our chicks are moved to the pasture as soon as they are old enough to withstand nighttime temperatures. They are kept in small, moveable pens for their protection. These pens are moved daily to ensure fresh grass and to maintain optimal bird health. These pasture-raised broilers eat fresh grass every day in addition to non-GMO grains. The result is an outstanding flavor and texture that's hard to beat.

Our family processes our poultry here on the farm and offers it either fresh or frozen. All frozen poultry comes in a vacuum-sealed package. Fresh chicken needs to be picked up on processing day, and goes directly from our chill tank to your cooler.

The price is $4.75 per pound for whole chicken, and $5.25 per pound (based on whole-bird weight) when we cut and package them in their respective parts - legs, breasts, and wings. If you choose to have them cut into pieces, you may choose to take the bony leftovers with you or leave them with us.

The price for fresh (unfrozen and unpackaged) is $4.25 per pound.

Please have your orders in as soon as possible. You may place your order by responding to this email. We plan to process the broilers near the end of September.
