Planning ahead

With the popularity of pasteurized mushroom compost increasing, we would like to encourage you to prepare for 2022 now. By getting your compost now, you can: Top-dress your grass now so fertilization in the spring is not needed. Prepare your raised beds and garden plots so you don’t have to wait for compost next year. Invigorate your hi-tunnels and fields with compost to maximize the micro-nutrients in the soil. The best time to do this is when the grass has gone dormant and after the final harvest of vegetables from your garden or field. We encourage you to begin planning for these activities now so you won’t experience a delay in delivery come spring. I have had a lot or questions about topdressing grass with mushroom compost. This process should have been done back in February/March while the grass is still dormant. Topdressing now will only kill your grass because the compost will adsorb heat and kill the new root structure of the grass.
Please don't waste your money at this time for this purpose.

I hope you were able to attend PASA 2020 in Lancaster. Since PASA has relocated there for the annual conference it is bigger and better. The rooftop bar and farm to table restaurant at the Marriott is a site and taste to be seen.

Fall is the ideal time to top-dress your grass! In particular late Sept through Oct when mowing is minimal and before the first freeze. Putting down a THIN layer of compost will add much needed organic matter that will decompose over the winter for improved grow out in the Spring.
