Some one handed driving going on here. Getting the last bit of the fields prepped for planting. First spreading fertilizer with Ruth and Pearl. Then harrowing it in with the Kubota tractor. And finally making beds with the plastic bed shaper.

Ruth really crushed this bed making session. She followed the furrow and kept a good pace while I drove with one hand d and filmed with the other. She’s come a long way Im 2 years since she started working.

And that’s it for the buckwheat. In three weeks we’ll plant our winter cover crops.

Ruby turned five this spring, she was born on the farm and is the first horse I trained from a foal. She’s easy going and a hard worker. Her official due date for her first foal is September 7th. Her udders are filling with milk, so that little one coming soon!

A not so good stand of buckwheat cover crop. Jonathan and I seeded this with a team of horses two weeks ago. He wants to harvest the “wheat” but I told him we’re going to till it in before it makes any seeds. But why? Well, it’s food for the pollinators and soil microbes, not for us.
