Family farm established in 1897 in River Falls, Wisconsin. The farm raises beef cattle, chickens and pigs for meat sales as well as crops that include corn, soy beans and hay. We also have a wonderful variety of laying hens that provide us with eggs that the family uses in everyday life as well as extra to sell! Things that happen when you have a farm child…. yesterday while Mom was sleeping after working a 12 hour overnight our six-year-old (with his partner in crime Cousin) decided to go out in the pasture and try and rope one of the small sheep. They were not successful in roping the Sheep however they were successful in roping a 700 pound steer who then took off with the rope still on… Needless to say Mom, after a short 4 hour nap, was needed to help dad catch the steer and remove the lasso while it tried to escape the enclosure and run everyone over.

I’m not sure the moral of the story… Maybe it’s that you shouldn’t underestimate the aiming power of your six-year-old? Or maybe it’s that you just shouldn’t trust two boys on a four wheeler with a rope…🤦‍♀️

Happy Sunday!!

Babies, babies, babies!!!!
We have started to calve which is always exciting and nerve racking. We love our animals, but on a working farm it does come down to the fact that they have monetary value as well. We are expecting over 20 calves this year (we are growing growing!)

We also had 2 lambs born just this morning ❤️ everyone looks great so we haven’t had to intervene at all. Nature is amazing.

Puppies have been fitted with their new gps/boundary collars…. A bit early but those boys are already trying to visit the neighbors…..

Another exciting part is that we received the architectural plans for the new barn!! We hope to start work in June.
It will be a classic looking barn with two stories. The bottom portion will be for keeping and working animals.

The upstairs will be some storage but mostly created for entertainment and educational purposes (field trips and such). This will help facilitate our big plans We will be starting next year.😜

As always, we couldn’t do this without everyone ❤️

Some heart healing visions on a beautifully sunny day ❤️

The most meaningful one being the pile of white fuzz that seems to collect at the front door. Our hearts broke when we no longer had the boys to fill that space, but now the next generation will continue on.

We have new groups of baby chicks that are thriving and chicken Nugget is not so little anymore! He’s still waddling around and enjoying his food.

*********
The farm store is still open daily and we will be extending the evening hours starting next week to be open 9 AM to 8 PM now that the sun is gracing us with its presence longer!

We are still stocked with plenty of eggs.

Our meat supply is getting pretty low, but we are planning a restock by the end of the month in beef, pork and lamb.
Whole Chickens will be coming, but not until the end of June after our setback.

*For all large quantity customers*
Our timelines have not changed since luckily our existing heard was not affected. We currently still have a few openings still left for November. Let us know if you would like any additional information.

It’s been a fairly uneventful week, if you don’t count Winnie going toe to toe with a bald eagle who had tried to sn**ch up a chicken on Friday!!! I guess she learned some good skills from her brothers during their time together.
Hopefully she can pass on her guardian knowledge to the new puppies who come next week!

Again, We wanted to recognize our amazing community… theses have been just some of the wonderful letters and cards the farm has received. This includes some very special letters from a 5th grade class at Greenwood Elementary ❤️ I will admit I cried reading all of them, but sometimes tears can be just as healing as laughter.

Our Orange kitties are reunited and have also completely healed. No dressing changes any longer and it’s apparent that both are getting use to the indoor life…..a little too use to it….lol.

We will provide the much anticipated puppy updates on Tuesday!!! Including the name reveals….and yes, they are themed!

It’s been a beautiful Friday and we have some exciting news to share.

This past fall our farm was “interviewed” by a very kind and knowledgeable beekeeper who selected our farm (out of 10 others) to be one of the sites for his multiple hives. Our site is on the edge of the woods, surrounded by rotational pasture with alfalfa and far away from any “traditional“ farming ground that could see spraying. It also has running water close by to help keep the little guys hydrated.

We have always found great interest in beekeeping but knew we needed a mentor for guidance.

Our beekeeper extraordinaire has been amazing during our difficult time and helped us in more ways than one.❤️

We look forward to this experience and hopefully before the end of the summer we will have honey available in the store from bees living directly on the farm! 🐝

Here’s to moving forward and finding the beauty in the small things 😊

From wreckage still comes life…..

The farm continues to move forward. Chicks continue to arrive, clean up has slowed and we are now in the planning phase.

Many have asked “what are we going to do”? The easy answer is rebuild, but rebuild into what?
What is left will remain, the old original limestone retaining wall and original poured concrete silo. We will be working with an architect to help our vision come to life. We intend to build a BARN, not a shed, not a pole barn….a real honest barn similar to what was there. We will share our plans once they are finalized.
We will also work on a fun project involving the old silos top cap and creating a gazebo/sitting area by the garden. A fun way to remember what is gone❤️

The farm store remains open daily and is fully stocked!

Thank you all😊
