🍔👀 We finally visited the newly opened Whataburger in Wesley Chapel after hearing nonstop hype about it opening.
Located on Sierra Center Blvd in Lutz, this spot is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which honestly might end up being its biggest strength around this area.
When we arrived, the drive-thru line was already backed up, so we decided to go inside instead.
First thing I noticed was the size of the restaurant.
It feels much bigger than it looks from outside, very bright, modern, and with more seating than I expected. The menu also did a good job balancing simplicity while still offering enough variety to not feel repetitive.
That said…
the pricing surprised me.
For fast food, things add up QUICK here.
We ordered:
🍔 Double Meat Whataburgers with Cheese
🍗 Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich
🌯 Whataburger Big Ranch Wrap
🍌 Banana Pudding Milkshakes
The clear winner of the night?
That Banana Pudding Shake.
Easily the best thing we tried. Smooth, creamy, strong banana flavor, and honestly worth trying even if you skip the rest of the menu.
The burgers themselves reminded me a LOT of Burger King. Same flame-broiled style flavor, but at a noticeably higher price point.
And unfortunately, neither the signature BBQ sauce nor the ranch really worked for me.
The bigger problem though was operational.
The food took quite a while to come out, parts of the order were missing, tables throughout the dining room needed to be cleaned, floors needed sweeping, and the beverage station looked neglected.
For a newly opened location trying to make a strong first impression, that stuff stands out immediately.
Now to be fair…
The restaurant was busy.
Very busy.
So some growing pains are expected.
But first impressions matter, especially with a chain this hyped.
Would I come back?
Probably if it’s very late at night and options are limited since being open 24/7 is genuinely useful.
But as of now, this isn’t a place I’d specifically crave or go out of my way for.
Maybe longtime Whataburger fans see something I’m missing 👀
