Thank you for all the likes, shares, and kind words on our recent post celebrating old friends and neighbors who are out in the world turning their dreams into reality. And another BIG thank you for introducing us to so many remarkable people and stories we didn’t yet know.
There’s an old joke that San Angelo is a great place to be “from.” We get it—but we also know that’s only part of the story. San Angelo is a wonderful place to come from, a wonderful place to call home, and, for many, a wonderful place to return to.
Growing up here gives you a perspective that is hard to find anywhere else. We experienced the closeness of a small-town upbringing in a community that has always valued hard work, service, creativity, and giving back.
Few cities our size can boast such a rich cultural life — museums, ballet, symphony, live theatre and music, painting, sculpture, and more. And our athletic traditions run just as deep, from football to rodeo, gymnastics to polo, baseball to pickleball, and well beyond.
San Angelo has also produced generations of people who have answered the call to serve — in the military, in government, as first responders, and through countless professions and vocations.
Behind all of these traditions are remarkable people with remarkable stories, and we’ve decided IT’S TIME TO TELL THEM! Some of these stories began long ago. Others are still being written. Some will come from fields, professions, and creative worlds you may know well, while others may introduce you to something entirely new. What they all share is a connection to San Angelo and the surrounding area.
STARTING SOON, we’ll frequently spotlight someone with San Angelo roots who has done—or is still doing—something interesting, inspiring, or extraordinary. One person. One story. One more reason to be proud of the place we call home.
